Full Job Description

The mission of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh is to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope through homeownership and home repair services in Allegheny County. We are seeking a Senior Construction Coordinator to oversee all construction activities that take place on assigned work sites.

Essential functions of the position are as follows:

Perform all duties with a positive demeanor and collaborative approach.
Act as a visible ambassador for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh and be able to answer basic, Habitat-related questions from volunteers, public officials, and the news media when necessary.
Approve sweat-equity hours of individuals/families and report any issues to the Homeowner Services Director.
Assist Construction Manager and senior leadership in developing plans and specifications
Work with staff/volunteers to provide an exceptional volunteer experience. Evaluate volunteers’ skill levels and match with construction site tasks. Patiently instruct unskilled volunteers.
Responsible for Work Plan execution and tracking of costs and materials used on each project assigned
Carefully evaluate and communicate any necessary changes to project Work Plans for approval by Construction Manager in order to promote the safety and quality of the housing Habitat provides to every partner family.
Responsible for breaking down daily construction goals into manageable tasks that can be easily assigned to individuals and groups. Direct workers to new tasks as they complete previous tasks.
Oversee and develop good relationships with independent contractors, when utilized, to ensure that the work is completed according to plan.
Coordinate tools and equipment among construction sites.
Maintain a safe work environment, including instruction to volunteers regarding safety issues.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to effectively interact with volunteers and the general public.
Strong project management and organizational skills are necessary to attend to priorities, details, and time constraints in a multi-task environment.
Well-developed analytical and decision-making skills.
Ability to work independently.
Exemplary self-discipline in work habits.
Conflict management skills.
General knowledge of building codes within various local municipalities.
Working knowledge of construction safety, including slip-trip-fall prevention, personal protective devices (e.g. goggles, gloves, earplugs, footwear), hazardous materials, and power tool safety.
Work requires a willingness to work on a flexible schedule that may include evenings and/or weekends.
Elementary knowledge of common software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and applicable e-mail.

C. Education

A high school diploma or GED is required. Formal education/training in construction related trades is preferred.

D. Experience

A minimum of two years related construction experience is required.

E. Certificates/Licenses

Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
Certified by the American Red Cross in first aid, safety and CPR.
Attend OSHA Competent Person training (through HFHI).

PAY RATE & HOURS

Pay range: $20.00 per hour

Category: Non-exempt, hourly

Standard hours: Tues-Sat 7:00-3:00
