Process Engineer (Cont’d.)
JOB DUTIES:
- Provide operations support through implementation of effective process controls for PVD coating technologies and other surface treatments/coatings such as Phosphating, PTFE/FEP coatings,
Solid state lubricant coatings etc. Lead process development and certification for new surface treatments/coatings applications.
- Perform root cause investigations and implement operational corrective and preventative actions to solve technical, process and/or material/metallurgical issues related to quality, operations and processes.
- Assist with problem solving of operational issues.
- Support operational excellence using statistical analysis for process control and certification.
- Work as a team with the Operations Manager & Quality Manager to achieve required deliverables.
- Responsible for all coating qualification and certification requirements to maintain operational, engineering and quality compliance.
- Create and manage technical documents that provide engineering requirements for coating options.
- Provide process related training to operations and sales staff.
- Work closely with sales & operations staff to develop new applications for Calico’s surface treatments and coatings.
- Liaise with HEF Group R&D and Application Engineering organizations to develop effective working relationships to enhance operational and coating information and application engineering exchange.
- Assist Operations and Sales in preparing price quotes by studying blueprints, plans, and related customer documents, consulting with engineers, and other technical personnel.
- Develop customer’s staff by providing technical information and training.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4-year BS in science / engineering or equivalent – preferably in Metallurgical engineering or
Materials Science. 2-4 years of experience in process engineering as related to Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coatings or Vacuum Technology.
- Some understanding of PVD coatings technology as applied to wear-resistant hard coatings.
Some industrial knowledge of other commonly used wear and corrosion protection coatings will be highly beneficial. Good understanding of the various steel grades and heat treatments for commonly used industrial mechanical products.
- Knowledge of metallurgical services such as heat treatment, electroplating, nitriding, thermal-spray coatings etc. as applied to automotive or industrial equipment/ component manufacturers will be desirable.
- Proven ability to drive process improvement and change, with business results.
- Must have strong leadership, training and facilitation skills.
- Strong interpersonal/communication skills required
- Familiarity with industrial and automotive mechanical engine components, powertrain etc.
- Experience with customizing existing metallurgical processes to meet customer’s specific technical requirements. Demonstrated Application engineering skills is highly desirable.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders within the customer’s and parent organization – product & process engineers, operations and sales staff etc.
