Job Summary:
As the Store Manager, you will represent leading brands and provide expert advice, assisting customers in identifying, selecting and purchasing parts and accessories for outdoor power equipment, including lawn mowers, chainsaws, trimmers, generators, and compact tractors. The Store Manager leads all aspects of store operations, ensuring exceptional customer service, effective team leadership, operational efficiency, and strong financial performance. This role is responsible for managing sales, service, inventory, vendor relationships, supervision of staff, and safety standards while creating a positive environment for customers and employees, while supporting store operations and sales goals.
Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:
Store Operations & Leadership
- Oversee all store operations including sales floor, service department, parts counter, receiving and drivers
- Schedule, train, and evaluate staff to ensure consistent customer service and operational excellence.
- Maintain product knowledge on equipment sold and serviced
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe store environment, including showroom, service area, storage spaces, and restrooms.
- Develop sales strategies
- Manage opening and closing procedures and overall store workflow
- Manage accounts receivable and warranty receivables
- Uphold all company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Achieve sales targets and meet planned budgets
- Ensure building and equipment are locked and secure
- Maintain communications with Regional Manager and corporate office, responding to requests in a timely manner
Sales & Customer Service
- Drive retail & commercial sales performance through effective merchandising, product knowledge, and customer engagement.
- Promote seasonal sales, promotions, and manufacturer programs.
- Develop long-term relationships with customers, including homeowners and commercial accounts. Maintain strong customer relationships and ensure customers receive expert guidance and support by providing a positive store experience.
- Handle escalated customer issues, warranty concerns, and returns professionally and efficiently.
Inventory & Merchandising
- Monitor stock levels, manage ordering, and conduct regular inventory counts.
- Coordinate equipment ordering with manufacturers and distributors
- Work with vendors and distributors to source equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Maintain accurate equipment displays, pricing, and signage of equipment and accessories, and ensure seasonal products are promoted and staged appropriately.
- Manage equipment and parts receiving and shipping
Service Department Coordination
- Support the service/repair department by coordinating and ensuring efficient workflow between writer, technicians and parts.
- Ensure timely completion of repairs and maintenance
- Coordinate with technicians on estimates, repairs, and job prioritization (if applicable).
- Ensure ongoing communication with customers with status of repairs
- Oversee warranty claims
- Monitor labor efficiency and shop productivity
- Follow up on all open tickets; assist team with prioritization
- Manage pick up and deliveries for service and parts
Financial Management
- Meet or exceed store sales targets, profitability goals, and operational KPIs.
- Manage daily cash handling, banking, invoicing, and reporting, balancing the cash drawer
- Review and control expenses to maintain budget compliance and identify areas to improve efficiency and profitability
- Monitor sales performance, margins, and expenses
- Make regular bank deposits
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and manufacturer standards.
- Ensure all staff follow proper handling of fuel, batteries, and outdoor power equipment.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and equipment safety standards.
- Address all safety concerns and put up signage to eliminate safety hazards or damaged goods.
- Building maintenance to include no fence cuts or damage to property
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and develop store employees, including sales associates, technicians, and support staff.
- Conduct interviews with candidates to fill position openings
- Set performance expectations; conduct annual evaluations, address employee performance issues.
- Review and approve employee timecards; monitor overtime usage
- Promote interdepartmental collaboration between parts, sales, and service teams.
- Ensure availability of adequate manpower at all times, being sure coverage is always sufficient
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
- 3+ years of retail management experience (preferably in outdoor equipment, hardware, automotive, or similar industries).
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Understanding of sales processes, inventory management, and basic financial reporting
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent sales and customer service skills.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for understanding equipment and parts compatibility; Knowledge of small engines and outdoor power equipment maintenance.
- Experience with leading brands (e.g., STIHL, Hustler, Toro, Kubota etc.).
- Proficient with POS systems and inventory management software
- Experience managing commercial/contractor accounts
- Ability to read and interpret parts diagrams and catalogs
- Basic level math skills for credit card machines and cash drawers
- Comprehend basic and complex parts diagrams
- Ability to work in a team environment and maintain a positive attitude
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Agriculture, or related field preferred
- Experience with STIHL, Husqvarna, Toro, Kubota, or Hustler product lines
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
- Prior experience in a multi-location retail environment

Work Environment:
- Indoor showroom and outdoor lot area
- Exposure to varying weather conditions when assisting customers outdoors or moving equipment
- Noise level may vary due to running equipment demonstrations, or in service areas
- Must adhere to all safety protocols when handling and demonstrating equipment
- Regular exposure to dust, fumes, grease, gas, oil, and other airborne particles commonly found in a repair setting.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift, carry and move up to 60 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching to assist customers and handle equipment
- Manual dexterity to operate equipment controls and perform basic demonstrations
- This position requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, pushing, climbing, moving and reaching/working overhead
Travel:
- This role may be temporarily assigned to an alternate location, as business needs demand
