Behavioral Health Billing Specialist (Outpatient Private Practice)

Join Our Growing Behavioral Health Practice!

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Behavioral Health Billing Specialist to join our outpatient private practice team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical billing, insurance claims management, and accounts receivable, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in outpatient behavioral health billing.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate reimbursement, maintaining positive patient experiences, and supporting the financial health of our practice.

Key Responsibilities

Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorizations prior to services
Review, prepare, submit, and track insurance claims for accuracy and timely payment
Investigate, appeal, and resolve denied, rejected, and underpaid claims
Manage patient billing, collections, payment plans, and account inquiries
Monitor and maintain accounts receivable (A/R), ensuring timely follow-up on outstanding balances
Generate and analyze billing, reimbursement, and A/R reports
Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with payer requirements and billing regulations
Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to resolve billing issues
Provide backup coverage for front desk operations as needed, including patient check-in/check-out, scheduling, and answering phones

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of outpatient behavioral health billing experience required
Strong knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and behavioral health reimbursement
Experience with claims submission, denial management, collections, and A/R management
Familiarity with EHR and practice management systems
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
