This position starts at a salary of $106,437.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $138,370.00 (GS-13, Step 10).
In this Supervisory Paralegal Specialist position, you will become a key member of a team of Homeland Security professionals providing key legal support for the law enforcement duties at the port level. Typical work assignments include:
- Reviewing and processing all cases within their area of authority through to final adjudication and solution; assuring that the elements necessary in order to establish a violation are present and are supported by substantiated documentation.
- Developing and evaluating all evidence, facts, and circumstances relating to a particular case and making determinations, decisions, and recommendations within the requirements of the laws and regulations.
- Receiving, examining, and evaluating petitions filed by individuals, attorneys, and/or corporations or other legal entities seeking relief from seizures, penalties, fines, and/or liquidated damages.
- Working with the contractor, violators, attorneys, U.S. Attorney's office and others on the management, manipulation, remittance, inventory and destruction of seized and forfeited property.
- Establishing work schedules, priorities, deadlines, and standards for acceptable work, coordinating and integrating with others that interface with the work process.

Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
- Reviewing and evaluating case files and supporting documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Analyzing evidence, facts, and circumstances in assigned cases, applying relevant statutes, regulations, and guidelines, and preparing written recommendations or determinations for case resolution.
- Communicating with attorneys, officials, and stakeholders to clarify procedures, provide information, and address questions related to case processing.
- Managing case records and documentation, prioritizing workload, and ensuring timely completion of actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Providing technical guidance, training, and feedback to colleagues and junior staff, sharing expertise to improve understanding of legal processes and support professional development.

You must:

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Leadership Training: All newly appointed first-time CBP Supervisors are required to complete mandatory training.
