USN is seeking experienced Endoscopy Registered Nurses (Endoscopy RNs) for high-acuity inpatient endoscopy assignments. This opportunity is designed for skilled procedural nurses with advanced gastrointestinal (GI) experience who are comfortable managing complex endoscopic procedures, administering moderate sedation, and caring for patients throughout the entire procedural continuum.
As a Travel Endoscopy RN, you'll work alongside gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, procedural teams, and hospital staff to provide exceptional care before, during, and after advanced endoscopic procedures. This role requires strong critical thinking skills, procedural expertise, and the ability to care for patients undergoing both routine and highly specialized GI interventions.
About the Role
This is an Inpatient Endoscopy RN position supporting advanced gastrointestinal procedures in a hospital-based procedural environment.
The ideal candidate will have experience with:
- ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography)
- Advanced endoscopic procedures
- Bariatric endoscopy cases
- Moderate sedation administration and monitoring
- Pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure patient care
- Wire management and assistance during advanced procedures
- Recovery and discharge education
You will be responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care throughout the patient's endoscopy experience while ensuring safety, comfort, and optimal clinical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Procedural Nursing Care
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments before endoscopic procedures
- Review patient histories, laboratory results, and procedural readiness
- Educate patients and families regarding procedures, sedation, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions
- Assist physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic GI procedures
- Provide continuous monitoring throughout procedures
- Deliver post-procedure recovery care and patient education
Advanced Endoscopy Support
- Assist with ERCP procedures
- Support advanced therapeutic GI interventions
- Assist with bariatric endoscopy procedures
- Manage procedural wires and accessories during advanced cases
- Assist with specimen collection and handling
- Maintain procedural flow and sterile technique during complex interventions
Sedation & Monitoring
- Administer and monitor moderate sedation
- Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythm, oxygenation, and patient response throughout procedures
- Recognize and respond to adverse reactions or procedural complications
- Collaborate with anesthesia teams when cases require anesthesia-assisted sedation
Quality & Patient Safety
- Maintain infection prevention and endoscope reprocessing standards
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedural protocols
- Document all patient care accurately within EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner
- Follow HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards
- Participate in patient safety and quality improvement initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum of 2 years of recent Endoscopy, GI Lab, Procedural Nursing, or Critical Care experience
- Current BLS certification
- ACLS certification preferred
- Experience administering and monitoring moderate sedation
- Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced procedural environments
