CNC Operator / Setup Technician Job Summary
We are seeking a CNC Operator/Setup Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring CNC machines to produce precision components that meet quality and production standards. The ideal candidate has experience reading blueprints, using precision measuring equipment, and troubleshooting machining issues.
Essential Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, or other CNC machining equipment.
- Load programs and verify machine setup before production.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
- Select and install the proper tooling, fixtures, and machine offsets.
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and indicators.
- Make necessary tool wear and offset adjustments to maintain part quality.
- Monitor machine performance and identify opportunities to improve cycle times and efficiency.
- Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet dimensional and quality specifications.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment clean and organized.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous CNC setup and operating experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of machining practices, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive movements.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, coolant, and metal chips.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with multi-axis CNC machines.
- Knowledge of G-code and CNC programming.
- Experience with Mazak, Haas, Okuma, Fanuc, or similar CNC controls.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience is a plus.
