Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Bookkeeping & Tax Preparation Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support the accurate preparation of financial records, assist with tax preparation processes, and ensure compliance with accounting standards. Your energetic approach and strong organizational skills will help streamline our bookkeeping and tax operations and contribute to the overall financial health of our organization. This position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your expertise in accounting systems and financial reporting within a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

Maintain and update financial records using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, and other financial systems
Perform bank reconciliations, account analysis, and general ledger reconciliation to ensure accuracy of financial data
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions efficiently and accurately
Prepare journal entries, double-entry bookkeeping entries, and ledger adjustments
Assist with payroll processing, ensuring timely and accurate employee payments
Prepare federal and state payroll tax filings and state sales tax filings
Support income tax preparation activities by organizing financial documents, preparing schedules, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations
Generate financial reports including balance sheets, income statements, and other reports for management review

Requirements

Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles with familiarity in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or similar platforms
Strong understanding of accounting concepts including debits & credits, journal entries, general ledger accounting, and double-entry bookkeeping
Knowledge of corporate accounting practices as well as government and non-profit accounting is a plus
Ability to perform account reconciliation tasks such as bank reconciliation and account analysis accurately
Experience with payroll processing, accounts payable/receivable management, and financial report writing
Familiarity with GAAP standards and accounting regulations applicable to various industries
Excellent skills in spreadsheets (Excel) for data analysis and budgeting purposes
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks performed
