Full Job Description

Surgical Technologist – Ambulatory Surgery Center (Ophthalmology Required)

Location: 1 Thorndale Drive, Suite 210 San Rafael CA 94903
Job Type: Contract / Temporary Assignment
Duration: 8 Weeks
Schedule: Variable start/end times | No weekends | No holidays | No call
Hours: 24 guaranteed hours/week
Pay: $60/hour ($1,440/week)

Job Summary

Marin Specialty Surgery Center is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to support our Ambulatory Surgery Center team. This position assists surgeons, nurses, and other surgical team members during operative procedures by preparing sterile supplies, maintaining the sterile field, passing instruments, and ensuring safe, efficient surgical operations.

Ophthalmology surgical experience is required.

This role is ideal for a skilled Surgical Technologist who is detail-oriented, committed to patient safety, and experienced in an outpatient surgical environment.

Responsibilities

Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies according to safety and infection control standards.
Set up and maintain sterile fields for surgical procedures.
Assist surgeons during procedures by anticipating needs and passing instruments efficiently.
Perform surgical scrub duties while maintaining strict aseptic technique.
Open sterile supplies and equipment while ensuring packaging integrity.
Assist with patient preparation, positioning, transfers, and room turnover.
Prepare and handle surgical specimens according to established procedures.
Participate in surgical counts and time-out processes.
Identify and report breaks in sterile technique immediately.
Maintain inventory levels and assist with supply management.
Support emergency procedures and follow established safety protocols.
Promote teamwork and a positive working environment within the surgical center.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Graduate of an approved Surgical Technologist program required.
Minimum of 5 years of surgical technologist experience preferred.
Previous ambulatory surgery center experience required.
Ophthalmology surgical experience required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification preferred.
Strong understanding of sterile technique, surgical procedures, and patient safety practices.
Ability to communicate professionally with surgeons, nurses, patients, and staff.
