As a Cashiering Specialist, you'll manage critical servicing accounting activities, reconcile complex transactions, support investor and regulatory requirements, and help drive continuous process improvements that enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Position Summary
The Cashiering Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of BrightShore Mortgage's servicing platform through the accurate processing, reconciliation, and administration of loan-level financial transactions. This position is responsible for ensuring payments, payoffs, wire transfers, investor transactions, invoice payments, escrow transactions, system adjustments, and servicing accounting activities are processed accurately, timely, and in accordance with investor, regulatory, and company requirements.
Beyond traditional payment processing, the Cashiering Specialist serves as an operational partner to multiple servicing departments by executing loan system updates resulting from Loss Mitigation activities, modifications, repayment plans, payment supplements, partial claims, bankruptcies, assumptions, special loan transactions, and other servicing events. The role helps ensure servicing system accuracy throughout the loan lifecycle while protecting investor reporting integrity, borrower account accuracy, and financial controls.
This position also supports vendor invoice processing and payment administration by validating supporting documentation, coordinating with operational departments, and ensuring transactions comply with investor requirements, internal controls, and financial approval standards. Working closely with Default Operations, Investor Reporting, Loan Administration, Compliance, Escrow, and Technology, the Cashiering Specialist helps maintain accurate accounting records while identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency, automation, and financial accuracy.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Process and reconcile all loan-level financial transactions, including borrower payments, payoffs, wire transfers, ACH transactions, recoveries, charge-offs, non-accruals, suspense processing, and other servicing accounting activities
- Accurately post, balance, research, and reconcile daily financial activity to ensure the integrity of borrower accounts and servicing accounting records
- Execute servicing system transactions resulting from Loss Mitigation activities, including loan modifications, repayment plans, Payment Supplements, partial claims, assumptions, payment deferrals, reinstatements, and other servicing events
- Validate all Loss Mitigation system updates to ensure payment amounts, terms, maturity dates, escrow changes, investor reporting, and accounting transactions are accurately reflected within the servicing platform
- Process investor-related financial transactions and servicing adjustments while maintaining compliance with investor guidelines and company controls
- Review, process, and reconcile payoff transactions, ensuring all principal, interest, escrow, fees, and advances are accurately calculated and applied
- Process collateral release transactions and coordinate with Loan Administration to ensure timely lien satisfaction and post-payoff servicing activities
- Administer automatic payment (ACH) setup, maintenance, cancellations, and payment processing while ensuring compliance with NACHA requirements and internal controls
- Process returned payments, non-sufficient funds (NSF), reversals, payment corrections, adjustments, and exception transactions while maintaining complete audit documentation
- Review, validate, and process vendor invoices and payment requests, ensuring proper approvals, supporting documentation, coding, and compliance with internal financial controls
- Research payment discrepancies, unapplied funds, balancing differences, and servicing exceptions, resolving issues accurately and timely
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly balancing and reconciliation activities across servicing systems, bank accounts, payment platforms, and general ledger interfaces
- Support Investor Reporting and Finance by ensuring financial transactions reconcile properly to investor remittances, reporting requirements, and accounting records
- Respond to internal departments regarding loan accounting questions, payment research, financial adjustments, and transaction history
- Collaborate with Default Operations, Escrow, Special Loans, Loan Administration, Compliance, and Investor Reporting to ensure servicing activities are reflected accurately within the servicing system
- Participate in testing of servicing system enhancements, payment processing improvements, and technology implementations to validate financial accuracy prior to production deployment
- Assist Operational Integrity, internal audit teams, external auditors, investors, and regulators by providing documentation supporting financial transactions, reconciliations, and operational controls
- Monitor operational trends, payment exceptions, reconciliation variances, and recurring issues, recommending process improvements and automation opportunities
- Maintain accurate documentation supporting financial transactions, servicing adjustments, balancing activities, and audit requirements
- Protect borrower, investor, and company assets by following established financial controls, segregation of duties, approval authorities, and operational procedures
- Maintain awareness of fraud indicators, unusual transaction activity, or operational risks, escalating concerns promptly to leadership
- Support departmental procedure updates, job aids, workflow documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives

Education, Experience and /or Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in mortgage servicing, loan accounting, payment processing, banking operations, financial operations, or a related field preferred
- Demonstrated aptitude to learn multiple servicing disciplines and grow into broader operational responsibilities as BrightShore continues to expand
- Strong understanding of loan accounting principles, payment processing, reconciliations, balancing, and financial transaction controls
- Experience processing borrower payments, payoff transactions, ACH activity, escrow accounting, or servicing-related financial transactions preferred
- Familiarity with servicing systems such as FICS Mortgage Servicer, MSP, or similar mortgage servicing platforms preferred
- Working knowledge of mortgage servicing operations including escrow administration, Loss Mitigation, investor reporting, default servicing, and loan accounting preferred
- Experience processing or supporting servicing system updates related to loan modifications, repayment plans, Payment Supplements, partial claims, assumptions, bankruptcies, or similar servicing activities preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to research financial discrepancies and reconcile complex transactions
- Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining financial accuracy, operational integrity, and audit-ready documentation
- Experience working with Microsoft Excel, financial reporting tools, and data analysis functions preferred
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while consistently meeting deadlines in a fast-paced operational environment
- Ability to exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and explain financial transactions clearly
- Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for operational improvement and contribute to automation or workflow enhancement initiatives
- Understanding of internal controls, segregation of duties, fraud awareness, and financial risk management principles preferred
- Experience supporting internal audits, investor reviews, financial reconciliations, or regulatory examinations preferred
