The Opportunity
Monty’s Handyman Services is growing in Tampa, and we’re looking for an experienced Florida Certified General Contractor to serve as the Primary Qualifying Agent and construction leader for our Tampa operation.
Monty’s is flipping the script on home services. We’re a growing, systems-driven brand on a mission to professionalize the trades and give homeowners an exceptional, white-glove experience from start to finish.
As our Tampa business grows, we want to expand beyond traditional handyman services into larger residential renovation, remodeling, repair, and permitted construction projects. We’re looking for the right licensed contractor to help us build that capability responsibly, profitably, and at a consistently high standard.
This role is ideal for an experienced Florida GC who wants to provide hands-on construction leadership and help build a growing residential construction operation—without having to run the financial, sales, marketing, or administrative sides of the business.
This is not a license-rental position. Our Qualifying Agent will have meaningful authority over and involvement in the construction activities performed under their license.
Monty’s will maintain separate responsibility for the financial and business operations of the company through a designated Financially Responsible Officer (FRO), allowing our Qualifying Agent to focus primarily on construction execution, oversight, compliance, quality, and project performance.
Your Role
As Monty’s Licensed General Contractor and Primary Qualifying Agent, you will provide leadership and oversight of our residential construction activities while helping ensure projects are delivered safely, professionally, profitably, and to Monty’s standards.
You’ll work closely with Monty’s ownership and operations team to oversee residential renovation, remodeling, repair, and improvement projects from start to finish, with responsibility for construction execution, quality, compliance, and field operations.
You’ll also play an important role in building the processes, subcontractor network, and construction standards that will allow Monty’s Tampa to take on increasingly sophisticated projects as we grow.
Your ResponsibilitiesProject & Construction Oversight
- Oversee residential renovation, remodeling, repair, and improvement projects from initial planning through final completion
- Review project scopes, plans, estimates, materials, timelines, and labor requirements before and throughout construction
- Provide construction expertise during estimating and project planning, particularly for larger, permitted, or more complex projects
- Evaluate project scopes for constructability, code requirements, permitting needs, potential risks, and appropriate sequencing of work
- Conduct site visits and monitor project progress, workmanship, safety, quality, and adherence to the approved scope
- Maintain project schedules and proactively address delays, scope changes, material issues, trade coordination, and other field challenges
- Identify necessary change orders or additional work and ensure those needs are documented and communicated clearly before work proceeds
- Resolve construction and field issues quickly while protecting project quality, profitability, schedule, and the customer experience
- Ensure job sites are maintained in a safe, clean, organized, and professional manner
- Conduct final walkthroughs, oversee punch-list completion, and ensure projects meet Monty’s quality standards before closeout
Subcontractor & Trade Management
- Manage and coordinate subcontractors, tradespeople, vendors, and Monty’s field team throughout project execution
- Help identify, recruit, vet, and build relationships with high-quality subcontractors and trade partners throughout Tampa Bay
- Establish and maintain standards for subcontractor licensing, insurance, documentation, workmanship, reliability, and professionalism
- Hold subcontractors and trades accountable for project scope, quality, schedule, safety, and Monty’s customer-service expectations
- Help build a dependable trade partner network capable of supporting Monty’s continued growth and expanding project capabilities
Licensing, Permitting & Compliance
- Serve as the Primary Qualifying Agent for the Monty’s Tampa business entity
- Maintain an active Florida Certified General Contractor license in good standing
- Provide appropriate supervision and oversight of construction activities performed under the company’s contractor license
- Ensure projects comply with applicable Florida Building Code, local building codes, permitting requirements, licensing regulations, and other applicable requirements
- Coordinate and oversee required permits, inspections, corrections, and project closeout requirements
- Maintain appropriate construction and compliance documentation for work performed under the company’s license
- Help establish processes and controls that protect our customers, Monty’s, and the integrity of your contractor license
Project Financial & Operational Performance
- Review project costs throughout the job and help ensure projects meet targeted profitability
- Partner with the operations team to identify potential cost overruns, scope gaps, labor issues, or other risks early enough to take corrective action
- Provide construction input into estimating, labor assumptions, material requirements, subcontractor pricing, and project timelines
- Help improve the accuracy of project scopes and estimates by applying lessons learned from completed projects
- Partner with ownership and management to improve estimating, project management, subcontractor management, scheduling, quality control, and other operational processes
- Help establish meaningful construction and project-performance metrics as the business grows
Customer Experience
- Maintain clear, professional communication with homeowners regarding construction progress, field conditions, schedule impacts, and project-related decisions
- Help set appropriate expectations regarding project scope, timelines, permitting, inspections, and changes
- Address construction-related customer concerns promptly and professionally
- Ensure Monty’s commitment to a high-quality, white-glove customer experience carries through from project planning to final walkthrough
Building the Monty’s Construction Operation
- Help establish scalable construction standards, processes, documentation, and best practices as Monty’s Tampa grows
- Develop consistent standards for project kickoff, site management, quality control, change orders, inspections, punch lists, and project closeout
- Help determine which projects Monty’s is appropriately positioned to take on based on scope, complexity, risk, resources, and licensing requirements
- Serve as a trusted construction advisor to ownership and the operations team as Monty’s expands into larger renovation and remodeling projects
- Help build a construction operation capable of scaling without sacrificing quality, compliance, profitability, or customer experience
What You Won’t Be Expected to Own
Monty’s intends to designate a separate Financially Responsible Officer responsible for the company’s financial and business operations.
This means you can focus your expertise and attention on leading our licensed construction activities rather than being expected to run every aspect of the company.
Our internal leadership team will continue to own areas such as:
- Accounting and financial administration
- Banking and financial controls
- Payroll
- Sales and marketing
- Customer acquisition
- CRM and business systems
- General business administration
- Overall business strategy and operations
You will have the visibility, access, involvement, and authority necessary to fulfill your responsibilities as Primary Qualifying Agent while your primary area of ownership remains the company's construction activities and project execution.
Who We’re Looking For
You’re an experienced Florida contractor who takes ownership. You can walk onto a jobsite, quickly understand what’s happening, identify potential problems, and get the right people moving in the right direction.
You understand that serving as a Qualifying Agent carries real responsibility and want to work with a company that takes that responsibility seriously.
You care as much about the homeowner’s experience as you do the quality of the finished work, and you understand that a successful construction project needs to meet expectations for quality, schedule, compliance, and profitability.
You’re also:
- Highly organized and capable of overseeing multiple active projects
- A strong communicator with homeowners, subcontractors, vendors, and team members
- Comfortable holding subcontractors accountable for quality, schedule, and professionalism
- Solutions-oriented and calm when unexpected construction issues arise
- Detail-oriented when it comes to scope, cost, schedule, and workmanship
- Comfortable using technology for scheduling, project management, communication, and reporting
- Collaborative and comfortable working alongside an established business and operations team
- Entrepreneurial and excited about helping build and scale Monty’s Tampa
Required Qualifications
- Active Florida Certified General Contractor (CGC) license in good standing
- Ability and willingness to serve as Primary Qualifying Agent for the Monty’s Tampa business entity
- Significant Florida residential construction, renovation, or remodeling experience
- Strong knowledge of Florida Building Code
- Knowledge of Tampa Bay permitting and inspection processes
- Demonstrated experience overseeing residential construction projects from scope through completion
- Experience supervising subcontractors, tradespeople, and construction activities
- Ability to review scopes of work, estimates, plans, project costs, and schedules
- Understanding of the responsibilities associated with serving as a Florida Qualifying Agent
- Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to travel to project sites throughout the Tampa Bay area as required
- Ability to pass a background check
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of Florida general contracting or residential construction experience
- Previous experience serving as a Qualifying Agent
- Experience with residential renovations, additions, kitchens, bathrooms, structural modifications, and other permitted home improvement projects
- Existing relationships with Tampa Bay subcontractors and specialty trades
- Experience building or improving construction processes for a growing company
- Experience managing project budgets and profitability
The Right Partnership
We recognize that an experienced GC may not be looking for another traditional 40+ hour-per-week construction management position.
For the right candidate, we’re open to developing an ongoing structure that provides the time, access, authority, and involvement necessary to properly fulfill the Primary Qualifying Agent role and oversee our construction activities while leveraging Monty’s existing team to handle broader business operations.
The specific schedule, compensation structure, project involvement, and responsibilities will be mutually established based on the needs of the business, project volume, and the requirements of the Qualifying Agent relationship.
What matters most is finding the right long-term partner: someone who takes their license seriously, knows how to deliver great residential construction projects, and wants to help us build a highly professional home-services and remodeling company in Tampa Bay.
Why Monty’s?
Monty’s Handyman Services is flipping the script on home services. We’re not your average handyman company—we’re a growing brand on a mission to professionalize the trades and give homeowners an amazing, white-glove experience from start to finish.
We’re systems-driven, culture-first, and serious about doing great work with a smile. That same positioning is at the heart of how Monty’s currently describes its culture and customer experience.
Our Tampa operation is growing, which means you’ll have an opportunity to help shape our construction capabilities rather than simply inherit someone else’s processes.
You’ll help establish the standards, systems, trade relationships, and controls that allow us to expand into larger projects the right way from the beginning.
