Position Title:Artistic Director of Dance Division
About Toledo MetToledo Met is a privately owned performing arts organization located in Sylvania, Ohio—approximately one hour from Detroit, Michigan. The region offers an affordable cost of living and a vibrant, growing arts community.
Founded in 2022, Toledo Met was established with a mission of providing high-quality, student-centered performing arts training. The school serves over 200 students and is recognized for having one of the strongest classical ballet programs in the region.
In addition to its ballet division, Toledo Met is home to:
- A growing commercial dance competition program
- A robust musical theater division, producing three full-scale musicals annually under the direction of a Theater Artistic Director
The organization produces an annual Nutcracker at the Franciscan Center, with four performances each season.
Facilities include an 8,000-square-foot studio with five studio spaces, all equipped with high-quality sprung floors.
Position Summary:The Artistic Director of the Dance Division serves as the primary artistic and programmatic leader for Toledo Met’s dance division. This role provides strategic, artistic, and operational leadership across all dance programming, including curriculum development, faculty oversight, and production direction.
The Artistic Director is responsible for advancing the organization’s artistic vision while operating within established policies, maintaining consistent standards, and supporting a high-quality, structured training environment. This position requires a collaborative leader who can balance artistic excellence with organizational alignment and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
Artistic Direction & Production Leadership
- Define and execute the artistic vision of the Dance Division in alignment with Toledo Met’s mission and standards
- Curate annual performance seasons and repertoire
- Direct full-scale productions, including the annual Nutcracker and spring productions
- Oversee casting, staging, choreography, and performance execution in accordance with Toledo Met policies
- Ensure all productions meet established artistic and technical standards
Choreography & Instructional Excellence
- Create original choreography for productions and performances
- Lead rehearsals and mentor dancers in technique, artistry, and performance quality
- Collaborate with faculty to maintain consistency in training while supporting a diversity of artistic approaches
- Uphold and reinforce established curriculum and technical standards
School Operations & Leadership
- Oversee scheduling, program structure, and delivery within the dance division
- Develop and implement curriculum aligned with organizational goals
- Recruit, train, evaluate, and supervise faculty and staff
- Foster a professional, structured, and supportive learning environment
- Ensure all faculty operate within established policies and expectations
Financial & Administrative Management
- Manage and maintain approved production and operational budgets
- Monitor expenses and ensure alignment with financial targets
- Support enrollment growth, retention strategies, and revenue goals
Communication & Organizational Alignment
- Maintain consistent, professional communication with ownership
- Provide regular updates on program performance, financial status, and strategic initiatives
- Ensure alignment between artistic direction and organizational priorities
- Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to strategic planning
Community Engagement & Growth
- Build and maintain relationships with students, families, and the broader community
- Lead performances, showcases, and outreach initiatives
- Collaborate on marketing and promotional efforts to increase visibility and enrollment
Qualifications
- Extensive background in classical ballet training and performance
- Prior leadership or artistic direction a plus
- Strong choreographic and rehearsal leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to work within a structured organization and uphold established policies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to student development, professionalism, and program consistency
