About the role
Trio Health is a real-world evidence (RWE) consultancy. We help clients answer hard scientific questions about how treatments perform in the real world, using large electronic health record (EHR) datasets. Our work is grounded in sound epidemiologic and statistical methods, we care about analyses that are rigorous, reproducible, and defensible. We are small, move fast, and everyone here does real analytic work.
We are hiring a Scientist to support real-world data studies from question to delivery: helping scope the scientific question with the team, contributing to protocols and analyses, running the statistics, and working directly with clients to explain methods and results. This is a hands-on, client-facing role — you will split your time between the data and guiding clients, not managing others. It suits someone with 2-4 years of applied experience in analytics, biostatistics, or epidemiology who wants to build depth while working closely with clients.
What you'll do
- Design and run analyses on real-world data, from cohort definition through final results.
- Contribute to study protocols and statistical analysis plans (SAPs): help frame the research question, define patient populations and inclusion/exclusion criteria, specify endpoints, and support scientific validation studies alongside senior team members.
- Code analytic pipelines in SQL and R and/or Python (SAS a plus), cohort building, ICD/procedure-code logic, feature engineering, and reproducible, well-documented analysis code.
- Apply epidemiologic and statistical methods: study design, regression and survival analysis, and causal-inference approaches for observational data, with attention to confounding, bias, and data-source limitations.
- Prepare summary reports and deliverables: clear tables, figures, and written summaries that translate technical results into insight for clients and internal stakeholders, and be ready to walk clients through them directly.
- Produce and maintain documentation: data dictionaries, codebooks, knowledge-base articles, and version-controlled, audit-ready analytic workflows.
- Assess feasibility: quickly judge whether a client question can be answered with available data, and what the data can and cannot support.
- Engage directly with clients in meetings, calls, and in writing, to help them understand our methods, interpret results, and get the most out of each deliverable.
- Use modern tooling, including AI-assisted coding and literature review, to work efficiently — with the judgment to verify outputs and know their limits. This is a small part of the role, not its focus.
What we're looking for
- 2-4 years of hands-on experience in analytics, biostatistics, and/or applied epidemiology (industry, government/public health, or research).
- A graduate degree (MPH, MS, or PhD) in epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, data science, or a related quantitative field.
- Hands-on experience with real-world healthcare data — insurance claims and/or EHR — including building cohorts and working with clinical coding systems (ICD, CPT).
- Proficiency coding analytics: SQL plus R and/or Python; able to ship clean, reproducible code independently.
- A solid statistical foundation: regression, survival analysis, and observational study design, with sound judgment about methods and their assumptions.
- Exposure to protocol / SAP writing — comfortable helping specify an analysis in writing, even if you haven't owned one solo yet.
- Strong written and verbal communication: clear summary reports, figures, and documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences, plus comfort presenting results directly to clients.
- A client-facing mindset: you're comfortable training and guiding clients directly — in meetings, calls, and in writing — not just producing results behind the scenes.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
Nice to have
- Consulting or client-facing experience in healthcare, life sciences, or HEOR.
- Formal causal-inference training (e.g., propensity methods, target trial emulation).
- Pharmacoepidemiology experience or familiarity with additional secondary data sources (e.g., registries, genomics).
- Experience with SAS, or with large-scale claims platforms and EHR data models.
- A track record of peer-reviewed publications or conference presentations.
- Comfort with AI-assisted analytics tools as part of an efficient workflow.
