Controller — Lambrecht Auction, Inc.
Do you enjoy building clean financial systems and turning numbers into decisions people can act on?
The Opportunity
Lambrecht Auction, Inc. is a third-generation family business with a $20 million, multi-entity operation. We are strengthening our financial systems and need a hands-on Controller who can produce reliable information, improve cash visibility, and create financial discipline across the business.
We are looking for a hands-on Controller who will work directly with the numbers, maintain accurate accounts, organize the overall accounting function, establish repeatable processes, and give ownership clear information for making decisions. This is not a role for someone who only reviews reports prepared by others.
To be successful in this position, you must have a reasonable understanding of budgets, monthly closeouts, debt, banking, capital allocation, entity structure, and tax-planning concepts. You should be able to ask good questions and contribute practical input while specialized advisors lead more advanced strategies. This is not a family-office, tax-strategy, or full CFO position.
Our Core Values
No Ego, No Drama — Focus on the work, communicate directly, and help the team succeed.
Get-R-Done-ers with URGENCY! — Identify what matters and move it forward.
Do the Right Thing When No One’s Looking — Handle financial information with honesty and discretion.
Attention to Detail — Accurate records and reliable reporting are non-negotiable.
Turning Problems into Solutions — Find the cause, create a process, and prevent the problem from repeating.
Core Responsibilities
Financial Close and Reporting — Maintain accurate accounts and organize the overall accounting function. Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, including account reconciliations. Prepare accurate income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, job-level profit-and-loss reports, and inventory reporting.
Budgeting and Performance Management — Build practical budgets using historical performance, maintain financial models aligned with the company’s financial goals, and track financial KPIs and operating throughput. Provide a clear weekly financial summary to ownership.
Cash Flow and Working Capital — Monitor cash within each entity and between entities, maintain a reliable weekly cash-position report, and identify cash concerns before they become urgent.
Entity Compliance and Financial Records — Coordinate annual entity renewals, minutes, and state compliance. Maintain clean ownership records, intercompany documentation, and organized asset information.
Professional Reporting Packages — Prepare accurate, complete information for accountants, lenders, attorneys, tax strategists, and other financial advisors. Support depreciation, insurance, and retirement-planning reviews by supplying reliable records and documentation.
Debt and Banking Support — Maintain a complete debt schedule and monitor loan payments and balances. Review loan terms and contribute informed input on interest costs, paydown priorities, lender metrics, and lines of credit without being expected to independently set CFO-level banking strategy.
Vendor and Credit Management — Maintain vendor reference information for purchasing and monitor business credit activity.
Special Projects — Once the core accounting and cash-management systems are stable, support insurance reviews, asset-return analysis, growth forecasting, capital projects, facility planning, acquisitions, and cost-segregation coordination.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience owning monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close
- Strong multi-entity accounting, cash-management, and intercompany reporting experience
- Ability to prepare financial statements, job-level reporting, budgets, forecasts, and management summaries
- Experience creating accurate packages for accountants, lenders, attorneys, or other outside professionals
- Ability to maintain compliance records, ownership documentation, and organized financial files
- Sound judgment when handling confidential company and ownership information
- Ability to build structure in an environment where every system may not already be fully developed
- Clear communication and the ability to explain financial information in practical business terms
Working Knowledge Expected
You do not need to independently own these strategies, but you should understand them well enough to contribute useful input:
- Loan documents, fixed and variable rates, total interest costs, principal repayment, and debt-paydown priorities
- Banking relationships, lender reporting, lines of credit, and debt-to-revenue measurements
- Asset ROI, depreciation considerations, negative cash flow, capital allocation, and major purchase decisions
- Entity structures, tax-planning concepts, acquisitions, cost-segregation studies, and long-term wealth-planning concepts
How You Work
Hands-On Ownership — You are comfortable working in the details instead of waiting for someone else to clean up the information.
Financial Clarity — You can identify the important story behind the numbers and explain it without unnecessary complexity.
Systems Thinking — You create repeatable processes instead of solving the same problem every month.
Calm Urgency — You move quickly without sacrificing accuracy.
Professional Judgment — You know when to make a decision, when to investigate further, and when outside expertise is needed.
What Makes This Role Different
- Direct impact on the financial discipline of a growing, multi-entity business
- Regular access to ownership and the information behind major business decisions
- Broad exposure to accounting, operations, banking, assets, insurance, and growth planning
- An opportunity to build dependable systems rather than simply inherit established processes
- Room to take on more strategic financial responsibilities as the core foundation becomes stronger
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: $65,000-$85,000
- Benefits: Health Insurance, Life Insurance, PTO and Sick Time
- Location and schedule: Our Main Facility located at 171 Delaware Ave., Sidney, NY
What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days
- A dependable monthly close process is documented and operating on schedule
- Ownership receives an accurate monthly financial package and useful weekly summary
- Weekly cash positions are visible by entity, including intercompany activity
- A complete debt schedule shows balances, payments, rates, and key terms
- Initial budgeting, KPI reporting, and financial-cleanup priorities are clearly documented
The Perfect Fit
You are a hands-on financial professional who likes creating order, improving systems, and helping owners make better decisions. You can work through incomplete information without becoming overwhelmed, but you also refuse to accept inaccurate or poorly documented numbers.
You will thrive here if you take ownership, move with urgency, communicate directly, protect confidential information, and turn financial problems into practical solutions. This role will not be a good fit for someone who needs a narrow job scope, fully mature systems, or several layers of corporate structure before acting.
