Angel Studios is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to safeguard Angel Studios by guaranteeing that the company strictly follows law guidelines and provides legal advice to management related to company business affairs and issues.
This position is onsite at our Provo, Utah office.

Essential Functions:
-
Entertainment & Media Law: Draft, review, and negotiate entertainment industry agreements, including film and television production agreements, distribution, licensing, and sales agreements, talent, writer, director, and producer agreements, rights acquisitions and chain-of-title documentation, advise internal teams on intellectual property, guild, and talent-related issues, and support content clearance, rights management, and risk mitigation for new releases.

Guild and Clearance Issues: Advise on clearance matters, guild issues, and other legal concerns related to the production, marketing, and distribution of films and television series.

Commercial Contracts: Draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including vendor, services, SaaS, and technology agreements, marketing, sponsorship, and promotional agreements, NDAs, consulting, and strategic partnership agreements. Develop and maintain contract templates and playbooks. Partner with business teams to structure deals that balance legal risk with commercial objectives.

Intellectual Property Management: Assist with intellectual property issues from an entertainment law perspective, including copyrights, trademarks, and licensing agreements, ensuring that the company’s content and creative assets are legally protected.

Cross-Functional & Strategic Support: Support special projects, strategic initiatives, and transactions as assigned by the CLO.

Data Privacy and Compliance: Assist with data privacy and regulatory compliance.

Litigation & Dispute Management: Assist with entertainment law audits and disputes, domestic litigation matters, including commercial disputes, intellectual property matters, employment-related claims. Coordinate with and manage outside counsel, budgets, and litigation strategy. Assist with dispute avoidance, settlement strategy, and pre-litigation risk analysis.

Required Education and Experience:
-
Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with active membership in good standing with the state bar; admission to practice law in Utah

Experience: 5+ years of legal experience with a strong background in entertainment law, corporate law, securities law, and intellectual property.

Communication: Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and effectively to non-legal stakeholders.
-
Familiarity with Film/TV Production: Experience navigating legal issues related to film and television production, including talent agreements, guild compliance, and content distribution.

High-Pressure: Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Integrity: High ethical standards and a commitment to integrity in all business dealings and discretion in handling confidential information.

Technology Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Google Suite, and financial data platforms (e.g., Bloomberg, FactSet).

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

Professional License of Legal practice

Outstanding knowledge of entertainment law

Proven 8+ years of experience as an attorney with 5+ years of entertainment law experience
Preferred Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field

JD degree in Law or Business Administration

Proven 15+ years of experience as an attorney with 7+ years of entertainment law experience
Work environment - When in the main office, expect a comfortable, air-conditioned work environment. Team members are issued their own desks, but the office is an open, shared space and can be fast-paced and occasionally noisy.
Physical demands - Ability to sit at a desk for prolonged periods of time.
Position type and expected hours of work - Regular full-time, 40 hours per week, onsite at Provo, Utah office.
Travel required - Occasional travel may be required as permitted
Work authorization - Must be authorized to work in the United States.
