Employment Opportunity

The Orem Public Library is currently hiring to fill two Library Assistant positions, one for their General Reference/Media team and one for their Circulation team, both in the Patron Experience Division. These are part-time, non-benefited positions working under the general supervision of an Associate Librarian or Librarian. These are patron-facing roles, with responsibilities including providing general and in-depth reference and advisory service to the public, scheduling study rooms and book group reservations, assisting/instructing patrons in the use of library resources, and assisting with circulation activities (e.g. checking items out, issuing library cards, handling money, etc.). The ideal candidates will be enthusiastic about working with the public, with an ability to deliver a high standard of service, even in stressful situations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requires a minimum of two years post high school education. Preference given to those with experience working in a library environment and/or Spanish-speaking fluency. High quality customer/patron service is required. Knowledge of library techniques, operations and procedures, and a general knowledge of the world of information. Skill in computer use and office software and applications. The successful candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and a criminal background investigation.

Pay and Benefits

Individual starting salary will depend on qualifications, certifications, and experience. The City also provides a comprehensive and competitive benefits package.

Schedule

Approximately 10-15 hours per week, depending on need. Candidates available to work all library open hours are preferred. Daytime, evenings and Saturday shifts will be required.
