Production Tech (Lighting and Video)

This position is split between lighting and video. You'll help program, operate, and maintain the lighting systems that support weekend services, special events, and ministry gatherings. Working alongside our Production Team, you'll help create engaging, distraction-free worship experiences through thoughtful lighting design and reliable system operation.
In addition to lighting, you'll also support our video ministry. That may include preparing ProPresenter presentations, assisting with livestreams, operating cameras, shooting and editing ministry videos, and helping maintain our video production systems. Every week brings a different mix of projects, so flexibility and a willingness to learn are essential.
Weekend services are what we do, so regular weekend work is expected, along with major ministry events such as Easter and Christmas. You'll work with an experienced production team, modern AVL systems, and some volunteers who are passionate about using technology to support ministry.

Primary Description:
The Production Technician is responsible for supporting the lighting and visual production elements of worship services, special events, and ministry environments across Northland’s campus. This role includes lighting design and operation, video production support, livestream execution, content preparation, and the maintenance of production systems and equipment. The Production Technician will work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to create engaging, distraction-free worship experiences both in-person and online. The role requires troubleshooting, problem-solving, and ensuring efficient day-to-day operations for visual technology needs across the church. As a key member of the Tech Team, the Production Technician must be able to handle diverse technical issues and offer timely assistance to enhance the staff’s productivity and must assist in staging and equipment set-up and other duties as assigned.

● Design, program, and operate lighting systems for worship services, special events, and ministry gatherings across campus.
● Hang, focus, maintain, and troubleshoot conventional and moving light fixtures.
● Operate and support visual production systems including ProPresenter, livestream platforms, playback systems, and video routing infrastructure.
● Prepare service content including worship lyrics, sermon slides, announcements, and visual elements for weekend services.
● Monitor and support livestream broadcasts to ensure a high-quality online worship experience.
● Support video production projects through camera operation, filming, editing, and content creation as needed.
● Lead and encourage volunteers serving in lighting, camera, content, and production support roles.
● Assist with planning and execution of creative environments, stage designs, and special productions, including setups, strikes, resets, and equipment deployment.
● Assist with routine maintenance and upgrades of campus-wide production equipment and infrastructure, including maintenance and cleanliness of production spaces, storage areas, control rooms, and technical workspaces.

Credentials (Educational & Professional Requirements):
● TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
o PC (Mac and Windows) proficiency. Knowledge of Google Workspace.
o Familiarity with lighting consoles such as grandMA2/grandMA3 or comparable systems.
o Familiarity with Vectorworks is preferred.
o Knowledge of moving and conventional lighting fixtures.
o Familiarity with ProPresenter, Planning Center Online (PCO), and Playback preferred.
o Experience with film or broadcast camera operation and terminology.
o Understanding of DMX, Ethernet-based control systems, media servers, and video routing systems.
o Quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and features in software.
● EXPERIENCE:
o Minimum 2 years experience in professional production, broadcast, live events, or a large church environment.
o Experience in lighting systems, video production, livestreaming, or related production disciplines.
o Experience leading volunteers and working in team-based production environments preferred.
o Knowledge of rigging, safety procedures, and production best practices is desirable.
● EDUCATIONAL:
o High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
● SYSTEM/SOFTWARE:
o Familiarity with personal computers, hardware and software
● PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:
o Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
o Must be able to stoop, kneel, or crawl to maintain technical equipment under stages and other low clearance areas.
o Must be able to work on ladders, scissor lifts, catwalks, and roofs.
