Security Systems Engineer – Network & Cybersecurity Integration
Location: Remote-based within the contiguous United States

Position Summary
Drake Consulting is seeking a Security Systems Engineer to support the secure deployment, integration, commissioning, and sustainment of electronic security systems for U.S. military and federal customers.
This position is responsible for the implementation, integration, technical validation, and ongoing operation of networked security systems. The role requires hands-on capability across enterprise networking, Windows Server, SQL databases, cybersecurity, system programming, commissioning, and technical troubleshooting.
The Security Systems Engineer will serve as the technical point of contact for assigned projects and will be responsible for secure, reliable system performance through final acceptance and ongoing support. Responsibilities include ownership of technical issues through resolution, coordination of project activities, maintenance of technical documentation, and compliance with customer and cybersecurity requirements.
Honeywell Vindicator experience is not required but will be considered. Product-specific training will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Configure, secure, and troubleshoot Cisco network infrastructure, including switching, routing, VLANs, trunks, access control lists, and connected system components
- Install, configure, administer, and troubleshoot Windows Server environments
- Install and support Microsoft SQL Server environments, including connectivity, permissions, backup, and recovery
- Implement applicable DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides, NIST-based cybersecurity controls, system-hardening requirements, secure configurations, and vulnerability-remediation measures
- Program, configure, test, and commission Honeywell Vindicator systems
- Integrate access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, servers, databases, networks, control panels, and field devices
- Review drawings, specifications, network diagrams, cable schedules, and system documentation
- Develop and maintain system drawing packages, including plans, riser diagrams, network diagrams, details, schedules, and as-built documentation
- Support system design, equipment selection, and technical planning
- Analyze and resolve complex issues spanning network infrastructure, servers, databases, application software, control panels, cabling, and field devices
- Conduct testing, validation, customer training, acceptance activities, and technical closeout
- Execute assigned work in accordance with technical requirements, approved designs, cybersecurity standards, project schedules, and customer acceptance criteria
- Own technical issues through resolution, including coordination, corrective action, testing, documentation, and customer communication
- Coordinate technical activities with customers, government representatives, contractors, subcontractors, manufacturers, and internal personnel
- Develop and maintain accurate system documentation, configuration records, testing results, corrective-action records, and closeout deliverables
- Provide remote and onsite service and troubleshooting support
- Lead or support field installation work when required
Required Qualifications
- Three or more years of relevant hands-on experience in network engineering, systems administration, electronic security, industrial controls, systems integration, or a comparable technical field
- Demonstrated experience configuring and troubleshooting TCP/IP networks, VLANs, switching, routing, trunks, and access control lists
- Working knowledge of Cisco network infrastructure or comparable enterprise networking platforms
- Hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting Windows Server environments
- Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, relational databases, or comparable database platforms
- Experience diagnosing technical issues across interconnected networks, servers, software, databases, and field equipment
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, network diagrams, cable schedules, and system documentation
- Ability to document configurations, testing results, technical issues, and corrective actions accurately
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with customers, contractors, manufacturers, and government personnel
Equivalent military and civilian technical experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting U.S. military or federal customers
- Experience with Honeywell Vindicator or another enterprise electronic security platform
- Experience with access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, or integrated security systems
- Familiarity with DISA STIGs, NIST cybersecurity standards, RMF support activities, and DoD system-hardening requirements
- Experience implementing secure configurations and remediating cybersecurity findings
- Experience preparing technical drawing packages or as-built documentation
- Experience leading technical projects, commissioning activities, or field teams
- CCNA, Security+, Network+, Microsoft, or another relevant technical certification
A college degree is not required.
Travel and Position Requirements
This position requires frequent travel to customer and project locations throughout the continental United States, with occasional OCONUS assignments. Travel schedules vary based on project requirements and commonly include multiweek assignments. Extended assignments may be required.
Work outside normal business hours—including evenings, weekends, and extended shifts—may be necessary to support installation, commissioning, acceptance testing, system restoration, and other project requirements.
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- United States citizenship
- Residence within the contiguous United States
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass required background investigations and drug screening
- Eligibility for unescorted access to U.S. military installations and controlled government facilities
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance when required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. passport
- Ability to work in active construction areas, equipment rooms, communications spaces, outdoor environments, and other project locations
- Ability to climb ladders, use aerial lifts, lift and carry equipment, pull and terminate cable, and operate standard hand tools, power tools, meters, and test equipment
