Full Job Description

Manufacturing Buyer - Materials, Suppliers, and Production Flow

In office Monday through Friday.

Some purchasing jobs are mostly about processing orders.

This is not one of them.

At Oshkosh Door Company, the Buyer plays a direct role in keeping production moving, protecting customer commitments, and helping the business make disciplined decisions about materials, suppliers, inventory, and cost.

When this role is done well, the impact is felt across the company. Production has what it needs. Customers get their doors on time. Inventory stays under control. Suppliers are held accountable. Problems are caught early instead of becoming emergencies.

This is a role for someone who wants to be close to the work, not buried in transactions. You will work with production, scheduling, sales, accounting, and suppliers to make sure materials are available when needed and decisions are made with the right balance of urgency, accuracy, and judgment.

Oshkosh Door Company manufactures custom architectural wood doors used in buildings around the world. Our work supports safety, performance, and design in schools, hospitals, offices, hotels, and other commercial spaces. We are an approximately 130-person company known for quick delivery, high-quality craftsmanship, and people who take pride in building something that matters.

This is the kind of role where good work is visible. When you catch a shortage before it stops production, negotiate a better supplier outcome, clean up a recurring inventory issue, or help the shop stay on schedule, people feel it. This job is not about being buried in purchase orders. It is about being trusted to make practical decisions that help the whole operation perform better.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

Keeping production supplied with the raw materials, packaging, and production supplies needed to meet demand.
Reviewing production schedules, inventory levels, supplier lead times, and internal priorities before making purchasing decisions.
Issuing and managing purchase orders with the right suppliers at the right time.
Watching for shortages, delays, inventory issues, and supplier problems early enough to do something about them.
Maintaining accurate purchasing, receiving, and inventory records in the ERP system.
Working with suppliers to support strong pricing, reliable delivery, acceptable quality, and responsive service.
Coordinating with production, scheduling, sales, and accounting when material availability, cost, timing, or information does not line up.
Looking for practical ways to improve purchasing discipline, inventory accuracy, supplier performance, and material flow.

WHO WILL DO WELL HERE

You will do well here if you are organized, practical, and comfortable working in the real world of manufacturing, where priorities change and details matter.

You should like solving problems, following through, and keeping people informed. You should be able to work with suppliers without being pushed around, and work with internal teams without creating friction.

You do not need to be flashy. You do need to be accurate, dependable, and willing to own the details.

WHAT YOU BRING

Purchasing, procurement, inventory, or materials experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
An understanding of how purchasing decisions affect production, delivery, inventory, and cost.
Strong communication skills with both suppliers and internal teams.
Comfort using ERP systems, purchasing data, inventory records, and basic analysis to make decisions.
Attention to detail in purchase orders, lead times, costs, quantities, records, and follow-up.
The ability to balance urgency with discipline.

An associate’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field is preferred, along with at least 3 years of purchasing experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.
