Full Job Description

Our client is a Plaza retailer that has been family-owned for over 100 years!

$90,000-$100,000 plus benefits! 100% on-site in KCMO location.

Monday-Friday 8a-5p

Without the strength of our accounting team, we wouldn’t be able to offer the industry-leading service we’re known for. The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, IT operations, and strategic financial planning, combining hands-on accounting with supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare, review, and consolidate financial statements, balance sheets, and income statements; perform variance analysis and provide commentary for management.

2. Accounting Operations: Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, bank reconciliations, payroll, and tax compliance.

3. Internal Controls: Establish and maintain accounting controls, ensure compliance with GAAP, and support audit processes.

4. Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial models; provide insights for strategic decision-making.

5. Supervisory Duties: Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity. Support professional development within the finance team.

6. Operational Support: Collaborate with other departments on sales information, contracts, insurance, vendor management, and business-related financial decisions.

Qualifications

7. Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business; CPA certification preferred but not required.

8. Experience: 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including supervisory or managerial roles.

9. Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP, management accounting, financial analysis, and reporting; proficiency in accounting software and MS Office; excellent communication and analytical skills. Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting.

10. Other Requirements: Ability to work independently and collaboratively, attention to detail, and capacity to handle confidential financial information.

Reporting Structure

11. Reports directly to the controller.

12. Acts as a bridge between accounting staff and senior management, ensuring accurate financial information and supporting strategic decisions.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
