JOB TITLE: Growing Hope Farm Assistant
STATUS: Salary, Full-Time
LOCATION: Growing Hope Farm, Palm City, FL
REPORTS TO: Growing Hope Farm Manager
JOB SUMMARY: The Farm Assistant will assist with general upkeep of the farm, green houses, and packinghouse, and farm premises. They will also assist with planting, harvest, and maintenance of the farm.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform manual agricultural, hydroponic, aeroponic, or horticultural tasks.
- Identify plants as well as problems such as diseases, weeds, and insect pests.
- Assist with the operations of the Packing House, which include the washing, and packaging of fruits & vegetables for distribution to HOH pantries and partners.
- Safely operate washing machines, dryers, sealers, and other packaging equipment as well as all farm equipment and vehicles.
- Perform manual service or maintenance tasks.
- Act as an ambassador for House of Hope, attend meetings and serve on committees as assigned.
- Provide support to fellow department team members, as well as outside departments, as needed.
- Attend training as requested
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred. Two years of agricultural, production packaging or related experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of safe use of basic gardening tools.
- Ability to obtain knowledge of gardening techniques and seasons.
- Ability to obtain knowledge of produce washing and packaging techniques.
- Ability to obtain knowledge of Florida Dept. of Agriculture clean room standards and safe practices.
- Ability to obtain a Food Protection Manager Certification.
- Ability to organize, set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with volunteers.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion; maintain confidentiality of clients, co-workers and agency.
- Ability to relate well to individuals of all backgrounds and socio-economic levels.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, donors, volunteers, co-workers and board members, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule.
- Ability to maintain clean, well-groomed appearance and dress appropriately for the position.
- Must have driving experience, reliable transportation with acceptable insurance coverage and valid Florida’s driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Compliance with House of Hope policies and procedures.
