Full Job Description

About the Firm

We are a private, founder-led private equity investment firm that manages capital on behalf of its founders alongside select co-investors. Our firm holds a concentrated portfolio of direct investments and portfolio companies, and our founders' ownership shapes how the business runs day to day: decisions move quickly, relationships matter more than process for its own sake, and the CFO works in close, direct partnership with the founders and Managing Partner rather than through layers of committees. We combine the investment rigor of a private equity firm with the discretion, trust, and long time horizon of a founder-run enterprise. We are also technology-forward: we view automation and modern tooling as core to how the firm operates, not an afterthought, and we're looking for a CFO who shares that mindset.

Position Summary

The Chief Financial Officer will serve as the senior-most finance and operations executive at the firm, responsible for the financial oversight of the fund and investment entities, portfolio company relationships, and the founders' related capital and operating structures. This role requires a rare combination of technical depth (fund accounting, tax, investment finance) and the judgment, discretion, and interpersonal skill required to work directly with the founders as both business owners and principals. We're also looking for a forward-thinking operator: someone genuinely interested in using technology and automation to modernize the finance function, and comfortable working directly with development/engineering teams to build or implement the tools that make that possible. The CFO will build and maintain the financial infrastructure, controls, and reporting that support the firm's long-term investment strategy and the founders' objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the primary financial advisor and trusted partner to the founders and Managing Partner on fund performance, liquidity, tax planning, and capital structuring.
Oversee accounting, financial reporting, and cash management across the firm's fund, holding companies, and related investment entities.
Manage consolidated financial reporting for the firm, including investor/partner reporting, investment performance summaries, and cash flow forecasts.
Partner with the investment team on due diligence, deal structuring, and financial modeling for direct investments, add-ons, and co-investments.
Coordinate with external tax advisors and legal counsel on tax planning, entity structuring, and fund/partnership compliance.
Oversee treasury and liquidity management, including capital call funding, distribution processing, credit facilities, and banking relationships.
Maintain and strengthen the internal control environment, including financial policies, approval protocols, and safeguards appropriate to a lean, closely held firm.
Manage relationships with external auditors, fund administrators, tax preparers, and other outside advisors, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of work product.
Monitor portfolio company financial performance and support portfolio-level financial oversight in coordination with deal teams.
Lead and mentor internal accounting/finance staff, and manage outsourced bookkeeping or fund administration providers as applicable.
Champion technology and automation within the finance function, evaluating and implementing systems and reporting tools appropriate to the scale and complexity of the firm's holdings.
Work directly with development/engineering teams to scope, build, or implement financial tools, integrations, and automated workflows, rather than relying solely on off-the-shelf systems.
Prepare materials for and participate in periodic partner meetings, presenting financial results and strategic recommendations.
Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and discretion regarding all firm and founder financial matters.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred.
10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including direct experience in private equity, a founder-led investment firm, or a closely held investment company.
Working knowledge of private equity fund structures, direct investment accounting, and partnership/K-1 tax concepts.
Experience with multi-entity consolidated reporting and complex ownership structures (LLCs, holding companies, fund vehicles).
Comfort working closely with founder ownership on both business and capital decisions, sufficient to work effectively alongside legal and tax counsel.
Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment in handling highly confidential financial information.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust directly with the founders, not just professional intermediaries.
Hands-on style; comfortable operating without a large finance department and willing to be personally involved in day-to-day execution.
Genuinely technology-forward: comfortable evaluating new tools, driving automation of manual finance processes, and working directly with developers/engineers rather than only through IT intermediaries.

Preferred Attributes

Prior experience as a CFO or senior finance leader within a founder-led or closely held investment firm.
Background in private equity, investment banking, or public accounting (Big 4 or similar) with later transition to a principal-side role.
Experience managing outside advisor relationships (legal, tax, audit) with minimal internal oversight required.
Track record of modernizing finance operations through technology — e.g., implementing new fund administration/reporting platforms, building automated workflows, or partnering with technical teams on custom tools.
A long-term orientation and genuine interest in a multi-year, potentially career-defining relationship with the firm and its founders.

Pay: $250,000.00 - $300,000.00 per year
