Classification: Admin/Prof

Exemption Status/Test: Exempt

Job Grade: 2

Department: Communications

Reports To: Director

Job Goal:

Edit and proofread written publications to ensure consistency of organization image, clarity, accuracy, and relevance.

Qualifications:

Education

Certification/Licensure

Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field

Experience

Three years of experience in editing and proofreading publications, including textbooks, letters, catalogs, brochures, flyers, advertisements, websites, and other written materials.

Special Knowledge and Skills

Expert-level proficiency in recent versions of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite, etc.

Knowledge of copyright laws and regulations relating to print and web-based content

Understanding of the editorial and publication guidelines of The Chicago Manual of Style

Effective time management skills with the ability to manage multiple editing projects simultaneously

Quick learner with the willingness and curiosity to learn new things

Effective and diplomatic written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in educational setting

Major Responsibilities :

Edit/proofread publications, including textbooks, letters, catalogs, brochures, flyers, advertisements, websites, and other written materials for accuracy, clarity, and relevance.

Collaborate with graphics design staff and project stakeholders to produce quality products and marketing materials.

Educate center personnel on best practices for writin

Effectively and diplomatically communicate edits and feedback to project stakeholders.

Support Region 4 events as assigned.

Provide technical assistance and services as specified by any applicable federal grant that funds this position.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors/ Mental Demands:

Frequent use of standard office equipment; prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; repetitive hand motions (keyboarding and use of mouse); occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 20 pounds); may work prolonged and irregular hours; occasional overnight travel; work with frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment; maintain emotional control under pressure.
