Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead tax compliance, planning, and consulting engagements for high net worth individuals, trusts and estates, pass-through entities, corporations and nonprofit clients. The Tax Manager will supervise staff, manage client relationships, perform complex tax research, oversee preparation and review of federal, state and international tax filings, and support tax planning, M&A, and audit response. The role requires strong technical depth across individual and entity taxation, proficiency with tax software and data tools, and proven leadership in a public accounting or professional services environment.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage tax engagements for individuals (including HNW/HNWI), trusts, estates (1041, 706, 709), passthrough entities (S-Corp 1120S, Partnerships 1065), and corporations (C-Corp 1120/1120 schedules).

Oversee preparation and review of individual (1040), fiduciary (1041), gift (709), estate (706), corporate (1120/1120S) and partnership (1065) tax returns and associated state and local filings.

Develop and execute tax planning and structuring strategies for high net worth individuals, family offices, real estate holdings, and entrepreneurial clients to optimize tax outcomes and succession planning.

Conduct complex tax research and analysis on issues including SALT (state & local tax), international tax and treaty analysis, BEPS/OECD guidance, transfer pricing, and R&D credits.

Manage ASC 740 tax provision calculations, tax accounting (GAAP/IFRS), and coordinate with finance teams for accurate reporting and disclosures.

Lead tax due diligence, M&A structuring and post-transaction integration, including tax risk identification and mitigation.

Provide tax controversy and audit support, manage communications with tax authorities, and lead nexus and apportionment studies.

Implement and maintain tax technology and workflows, including ONESOURCE, CCH, Vertex, CorpTax, payroll & withholding systems, VAT/GST tools, and ERP integrations (SAP, Oracle).

Supervise, mentor and develop senior tax staff and tax preparers; review workpapers, returns and client deliverables for quality and compliance.

Drive process improvements using advanced Excel/VBA, Alteryx/Power Query, SQL and other data tools to automate workflows and enhance analytics.

Collaborate with wealth advisors, financial planners and legal counsel on integrated solutions (estate, trust, and gift planning).

Support business development activities: prepare proposals, participate in client meetings, and help grow the tax practice.
Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; advanced degree (JD, LLM, or Masters) a plus.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred; Enrolled Agent (EA) or equivalent tax credential acceptable. JD or LLM in tax law considered an asset.

7+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting or professional services with a focus on high net worth individuals, trusts & estates, partnerships, and corporate taxation.

Proven supervisory experience with ability to manage teams, mentor staff and oversee complex engagements.

Deep technical knowledge of U.S. federal, state & local, and international tax rules, including passthrough taxation, partnership tax, corporate tax, estate & gift tax, and trust taxation.

Experience with tax provision (ASC 740), GAAP/IFRS tax accounting, M&A tax and due diligence, transfer pricing, and tax controversy.

Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing returns: 1040, 1041, 706, 709, 1120, 1120S, 1065 and various state filings.

Proficiency with tax research and tax software (ONESOURCE, CCH, Vertex, CorpTax) and ERP/tax integrations (SAP, Oracle).

Advanced Excel skills (including VBA); experience with Alteryx, Power Query, SQL or similar data automation tools.

Strong client service orientation, excellent communication skills, and the ability to explain complex tax issues to nontechnical stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines during busy season, and deliver high-quality work under pressure.
