Full Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. As a key player in maintaining compliance, you will support various accounting functions for four affiliated companies. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, experience with diverse financial software, and a passion for precision and continuous improvement.

Duties

Manage the complete accounts payable process for four affiliated companies
Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
Process vendor payments by check and/or electronic payment methods
Perform bank, credit card, and ledger account entries and reconciliations
Prepare and post journal entries with supporting source documentation
Perform financial and accounting analysis
Record cash receipts and banking transactions
Process employee travel authorizations and expense reimbursements
Assist with accounts receivable and student billing processes as needed
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities
Assist with audit preparation and responses to external auditors
Assist with accounting administrative functions (e.g. filing, correspondence, records management)
Support implementation and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Perform additional accounting, financial, and/or administrative duties as assigned
Order and maintain office supplies
Communicate professionally with employees, vendors, customers, and management
Work as a collaborative member of the accounting team
Additional duties as assigned

Experience:

3+ years working in an accounting role
2+ years experience managing accounts payable
2+ years experience using Excel (knowledge of pivot tables and advanced functions preferred)
2+ years experience handling confidential data such as credit card numbers, bank info, etc.
2+ years experience working with QuickBooks Desktop (preferred)
1+ year of customer service experience
Intercompany accounting experience preferred
Pay will be dependent on experience

Skills and Abilities:

Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the company
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word
Strong attention to detail
Strong organizational skills including prioritization of work, time management, and deadline management
High level of integrity, confidentiality and accountability
Ability to work collaboratively while managing responsibilities independently
Must be motivated and have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when demanded by important deadlines

Education:

Associate’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or Business, Bachelor’s strongly preferred

Working Conditions:

Work Conditions: Ambient Office Environment
Physical Requirement: constant sitting, occasional lifting up to 10 pounds, dexterity to constantly use computer mouse, keyboard and phone
Schedule requirements: typically Monday through Friday; standard business hours; weekend hours may occasionally be necessary based on business needs

Company Reporting:

This position reports to the Controller and will take direction from the Accounting Manager and Controller
May take direction from the Director of Operations

Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
