The Wildfire Preparedness Manager leads our efforts to build wildfire-ready, resilient communities across Napa County and the broader region. This position drives community outreach, education, partnerships, Fire Safe Council support, Firewise initiatives, and grant programs that turn wildfire preparedness goals into meaningful action.
Serving as our lead for public outreach events and Napa County Coordinator through the California Fire Safe Council County Coordinator Program, the Manager brings together residents, community organizations, Fire Safe Councils, public agencies, and internal teams to strengthen collaboration, expand local capacity, and advance wildfire resilience.
The Wildfire Preparedness Manager oversees a diverse portfolio of activities, including community engagement and education, Fire Safe Council support, Firewise program coordination, partnership development, program implementation, and grant reporting. Through this work, the position helps empower communities to prepare for wildfire, strengthen local capacity, and advance long-term wildfire resilience throughout Napa County.

Key Details:
- Compensation: $104,000 to $115,000, depending on experience
- Schedule: Full time
- Work Location/Remote Position: This is a remote position with regular in-person events, meetings, presentations, and occasional project-site visits throughout Napa County. Because event coordination is a key responsibility, candidates within 45 minutes of Napa or St. Helena are preferred. The role offers flexibility in weekday scheduling, with some evening and weekend commitments. Fluency in Spanish and wildfire prevention experience are preferred.
Your Responsibilities:
Community Outreach and Engagement
- Leads community outreach events, workshops, and presentations from planning through follow-up, including logistics, materials, setup, and public inquiries.
- Creates outreach agendas, presentations, handouts, and other materials using NCFF-approved branding and messaging.
- Builds partnerships with residents, community organizations, public agencies, and other stakeholders to advance wildfire preparedness and resilience.
- Identifies opportunities to expand participation, increase program awareness, and engage new audiences.
- Manages outreach supplies, event data, tracking, and reporting to support program goals and grant requirements.
- Develops educational content, presentations, and outreach materials in collaboration with subject matter experts and the Communications and Development Team.
- Responds to community inquiries and coordinates timely follow-up with appropriate team members.
- Maintains the Outreach Monday.com board with current event information, participation data, follow-up items, and metrics to support monthly reporting and future outreach planning.
Fire Safe Council Support
- Serves as liaison to up to 25 Fire Safe Councils, providing resources, meeting support, follow-up, and issue escalation.
- Supports the formation and development of new Fire Safe Councils through community outreach, stakeholder engagement, and meeting coordination.
- Supports Fire Safe Council and Community Wildfire Protection Plan initiatives, including planning, stakeholder engagement, tracking, communications, and final materials.
- Leads monthly Fire Safe Council Leadership Meetings, including agendas, speakers, presentations, technology, documentation, and follow-up.
- Develops and coordinates Fire Safe Council communications, resources, and annual community meetings and events.
Firewise Applications and Renewals
- Manages NFPA Firewise applications and annual renewals, including risk assessments, action plans, documentation, and portal submissions.
- Maintains tracking systems and renewal calendars to ensure accurate, timely submissions.
- Supports Firewise communities with renewal requirements, information gathering, and submission deadlines.
Program Support and Development
- Researches and develops educational materials, programs, and tools that advance wildfire resilience and meet grant and community needs.
- Supports grant and private funding proposals with program information, outreach strategies, and supporting materials.
- Develops inclusive programs and tools to communicate wildfire resilience information across diverse communities.
- Maintains partner lists, maps, and program resources to support CWPPs, outreach, and collaboration.
- Maintains program operations, tracking systems, and grant deliverables across Monday.com, SharePoint, and Teams.
CFSC County Coordinator
- Coordinates and maintains CFSC data collection, GIS updates, reporting, and grant deliverables.
- Builds strategic partnerships and expands inclusive wildfire resilience outreach to underserved and vulnerable communities.
- Presents project progress and impact to the County Board of Supervisors and community partners.
- Participates in CFSC meetings, workshops, and grant coordination activities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education, training, and experience.
- Three or more years of experience in wildfire mitigation, emergency preparedness, community education, CWPPs, program coordination, or a related field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of local community needs, dynamics, and wildfire preparedness priorities throughout Napa County.
- Experience supporting Firewise communities, including community engagement, risk assessment coordination, action planning, applications, and renewals.

- Strong project management, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities independently.

- Ability to work effectively in a remote/hybrid environment, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to travel to project sites, meetings, and community events as needed, including driving independently to locations throughout the service area.
- Possess a current, valid driver’s license and maintain California-compliant auto insurance
Desired but Not Required:
- Fluency in Spanish.
- Experience with Monday.com or other project tracking applications.
- Experience with ArcGIS or other mapping tools.
- Experience working in a 501(c)(3) nonprofit environment.
- NFPA Community Wildfire Mitigation Specialist certification, NWCG training, FEMA training, or other relevant wildfire preparedness or emergency management training.
Physical and Field Requirements
- Ability to travel throughout the service area, including rural and remote locations with rough terrain and varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work safely in field environments and participate in virtual and in-person meetings.
- Ability to load, unload, transport, and set up outreach equipment and supplies, including lifting up to 40 pounds and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work at a computer and participate in virtual meetings for extended periods.
