Full Job Description

Preschool Teacher – Autism Support Classroom

Position: Preschool Teacher
Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time
Pay Range: $17.00–$23.00 per hour, depending on education and experience
Classroom Size: Maximum of 6 children
Schedule:

Full-Time: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM
Part-Time: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–3:30 PM

Position Summary

Tots Yearn to Learn is seeking a compassionate, professional, and experienced Preschool Teacher to work in a small, supportive classroom serving young children with autism and other developmental needs.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with children with autism and a strong understanding of individualized instruction, positive behavior supports, classroom routines, and developmentally appropriate practices.

The classroom will have a maximum enrollment of six children, allowing the teacher to provide individualized attention and maintain a structured, nurturing learning environment.

The majority of children enrolled in the classroom will receive 1:1 support through Elwyn intervention services and/or Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services. The Preschool Teacher will work collaboratively with Elwyn professionals, ABA providers, families, and other members of the child's support team.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching or working directly with children with autism.
Experience working with preschool-aged children preferred.
Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate teaching practices.
Ability to work effectively with children who may have communication, behavioral, sensory, or developmental challenges.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with parents, childcare staff, Elwyn professionals, ABA providers, and other service providers.
Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and appropriate documentation.

Essential Responsibilities

Provide a safe, nurturing, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
Develop and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences for preschool children.
Adapt classroom activities and instruction to meet individual children's developmental and educational needs.
Support children's social-emotional, communication, cognitive, physical, and self-help development.
Follow individualized plans and recommendations provided by the child's educational and intervention team.
Work collaboratively with Elwyn intervention professionals and ABA providers, including 1:1 support staff working within the classroom.
Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding children's progress, classroom activities, and concerns.
Use positive behavior-support strategies and maintain a calm and structured classroom environment.
Support children with transitions, routines, peer interactions, communication, and participation in classroom activities.
Observe and document children's development and progress as required.
Participate in meetings and collaborative planning with parents, childcare administrators, Elwyn personnel, ABA professionals, and other service providers.
Maintain accurate classroom and child-related records.
Follow all applicable childcare licensing requirements, health and safety procedures, and organizational policies.
Maintain a professional relationship with all children, families, coworkers, and outside service providers.
Ensure that children are treated with dignity, respect, patience, and compassion at all times.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who genuinely enjoys working with children with autism and understands that each child has unique strengths, abilities, communication styles, and support needs.

We are looking for a teacher who is patient, dependable, compassionate, organized, flexible, and comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Because most children in the classroom will receive 1:1 intervention or ABA support, the teacher must be comfortable collaborating with outside professionals while maintaining responsibility for the overall classroom environment and educational experience.

Compensation

$17.00–$23.00 per hour

Starting pay will be determined based on the candidate's education, experience working with children with autism, teaching experience, and overall qualifications.
