Position Summary: Aurora Fiber is seeking only experienced low voltage technicians for immediate openings to provide assistance with the installation, termination, and testing of various types of voice and data cables as well as security/access control equipment. MUST be comfortable working from a lift. This is a full-time position with approximately 40-50 hours per week. Occasional regional travel and night work flexibility is required.
The ideal candidate should possess the following: Technicians MUST have experience working with various cables that include, but are not limited to: twisted pair, coax, Category 5, Category 6, single and multi-mode fiber optic cables. Cable installation includes: pulling, placement, terminating, testing, and labeling. IDF/MDF, rack install, fiber termination and testing experience a plus. We are looking for individuals who will pay attention to detail and work efficiently under minimal supervision. Must pass drug and background checks and driving record checks.
Job Responsibilities:
- Coax/Cat6/Cat5e cable and fiber installations in commercial space (drop ceiling, internal wall, external wall, wire tray, conduit).
- Pulling, terminating, and testing of fiber optic cables
- Dressing/labeling of cables
- Installation of cabling support structures (cable tray, J-hooks, ladder rack, etc.)
- Must be comfortable working at heights up to 40 feet
- Running and bending EMT conduit
- Ability to read project plans and install per specifications.
- Troubleshoot voice/data lines. Must have a working knowledge of commercial grade wiring topologies.
- Must know 4pr/25pr color codes.
- Must be able to work sites independently when required.
Job Requirements:
- 3 years of low voltage installation experience in commercial cabling.
- Must have own cabling hand tools (tool pouch, snips, screwdrivers, punch-down tool, crimper, etc.) and basic power tools.
- Familiarity with BICSI, EIA, TIA or NEC Standards.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and to provide two professional references.
- MUST have a valid driver’s license and clean record.
- Install work area outlets for floor, modular furniture and wall (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks. Mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly. Adhere to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards).
- Build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required. Complete all IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
- Perform testing: continuity test horizontal and riser cable; use of volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable; use a tone set.
- Adhere to and participate in all Company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
- Basic PC/Laptop knowledge required for troubleshooting hardware, routers, and camera systems.
- Ability to prioritize and multi tasks job site duties.
- Ability to work under time constraints and adapt to changing work site environment.
- Effective oral and written English communication skills as required for the position, bi-lingual a plus.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of staff, vendors and clients.
- BICSI Certification (current or past) a plus, but not required.
- OSHA Certification a plus.
- Lift Certification a plus.
- PREVIOUS ELECTRICAL BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE A PLUS.
