Orpheus Ocean is seeking a Robotics Software Engineering Intern to assist with development and deployment of the software stack for our Orpheus Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). During a 3-month internship, you will help to accelerate the deep ocean exploration capabilities of the Orpheus AUV, supporting environmental monitoring and surveying for emerging sectors in the blue economy including offshore wind, seabed minerals, and critical subsea infrastructure.

Duties/Responsibilities: The Robotics Software Engineering Intern will work closely with the software team to develop robust and reliable autonomy systems for control of the AUV. Tasks may include but not be limited to software development and design of new functionalities that can be used to test, support or advance the autonomy software stack. The intern will also work on vehicle simulation integrations with different facets of the software stack, as well as GUI integrations. The intern will have the opportunity to participate in tank and field testing in a real operational environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong proficiency in C++ and/or Python programming languages.
- Good experience with ROS & ROS2, Gazebo, and RViz.
- Experience with Ground Control Station (QGC) software, MAVLink/MAVROS, and other Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs).
- Experience with Docker or other containerization tools.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git.
- Good knowledge of networking protocols, network interfaces, and the ability to troubleshoot basic networking issues.
- Good knowledge of best practices in software development and software design.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, including working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
Time frame of internship: Fall 2026 (Oct-Dec 2026)
Outcomes of effort: The intern will become familiar with working in a fast moving startup environment and will have the opportunity to take ownership over various parts of the vehicle.
