Full Job Description

Indian River Transport, one of the nation’s premier liquid food-grade tank carriers, is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our corporate team in Winter Haven, Florida. In operation since 1974, we provide transportation services throughout the United States, while also offering import/export services between the US, Canada and Mexico. Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the daily accounting operations. This role maintains accurate financial records, prepares journal entries, reconciles accounts, assists with month-end close, and supports reporting related to freight operations, fuel expenses, driver payroll, fleet assets, and transportation taxes. The ideal candidate possesses strong accounting knowledge and preferably experience within the trucking, logistics, or transportation industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

General Accounting

Prepare and post journal entries.
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
Prepare financial reports and account analyses.
Support annual audits and tax reporting requirements.

Accounts Receivable & Billing

Generate customer invoices for transportation services.
Monitor customer accounts and collections activities.
Apply daily cash receipts and reconcile customer payments.
Resolve customer billing disputes.

Transportation-Specific Accounting

Reconcile driver settlements and payroll-related expenses.
Track fuel, maintenance, permits, and fleet operating costs.
Audit carrier invoices and accessorial charges.
Analyze transportation revenue and costs by load, lane, customer, or fleet.
Assist with fuel tax (IFTA) and other transportation-related reporting.

Financial Analysis

Prepare KPI and profitability reports.
Assist with budgeting and forecasting.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements.
Support management with operational and financial analysis.

Qualifications / Education

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
Associate's degree with relevant experience may be considered.

Experience

2–5 years of accounting experience.
Prior experience in trucking, logistics, transportation, or freight brokerage preferred.
Strong working knowledge of ERP, GAAP, advanced Excel

Skills

Strong understanding of GAAP principles.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced transportation environment and meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
