Full Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable, and patient-focused Respiratory Therapist (RT) to join our Durable Medical Equipment (DME) team. The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing respiratory equipment, education, and clinical support to patients in the home and clinic setting. This position ensures patients receive appropriate respiratory care while complying with physician orders, Medicare guidelines, accreditation standards, and company policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assess patient respiratory equipment needs based on physician orders.
Set up, deliver, and instruct patients on the proper use and maintenance of respiratory equipment, including:
- CPAP/BiPAP devices
- Oxygen concentrators and portable oxygen systems
- Nebulizers
- Suction equipment
- Ventilators (if applicable)
- Pulse oximeters and related respiratory equipment
Educate patients and caregivers on respiratory disease management and equipment safety.
Perform mask fittings, CPAP compliance follow-up, troubleshooting, and therapy adjustments as allowed by physician orders and company policy.
Review physician documentation for completeness and compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance requirements.
Coordinate with physicians, case managers, hospitals, home health agencies, and nursing facilities regarding patient respiratory needs.
Maintain accurate patient records and documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
Monitor patient compliance and communicate concerns to the prescribing provider.
Ensure all equipment is sanitized, maintained, and meets regulatory standards.
Participate in quality assurance and accreditation activities.
Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, ACHC/Joint Commission standards, and company policies.
Participate in on-call rotation as assigned.

Required

Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential.
Current state Respiratory Care License (if required).
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and transport respiratory equipment.
Excellent communication and patient education skills.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.

Preferred

Minimum of one year of respiratory therapy experience.
Previous experience in Home Medical Equipment (HME) or Durable Medical Equipment (DME).
Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance documentation requirements.
Experience with CPAP compliance monitoring and oxygen qualification guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of respiratory diseases and treatment modalities.
Strong understanding of PAP therapy, oxygen therapy, and aerosol medications.
Ability to educate patients of all ages and caregivers.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
Proficient with EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
Ability to transport respiratory equipment into patient homes.
Ability to safely lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Visual acuity and manual dexterity necessary to operate respiratory equipment.
