Now hiring a Portland-based experienced leather cutter/pattern maker. We are a small family business with a team of artisans seeking a candidate who is looking to expand their knowledge and skills working with leather garments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- PRODUCE CONSISTENT AND HIGH-QUALITY WORK ACCORDING TO TEAM GUIDELINES.
- MEET AND RECORD THE OUTPUT OF ALL PRODUCTS. VERIFY THE ACCURACY OF ALL WORK ORDERS.
- UNDERSTAND THE USE AND EFFECTS OF VARIOUS MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT, AND TECHNIQUES.
- MAINTAIN A CLEAN AND ORGANIZED WORKSPACE.
SKILLS
- EXPERIENCE WITH LEATHER PATTERN WORK REQUIRED
- COMFORTABLE WORKING WITH HIGH-END MATERIALS THAT REQUIRE A GREAT DEAL OF CARE AND CONCERN.
- ABLE TO LEARN QUICKLY BY WATCHING AND DOING; CAN RETAIN SKILLS AND INFORMATION AND BUILD ON THEM.
- CLEAR COMMUNICATOR, ABLE TO CONSISTENTLY RECEIVE AND ADJUST TO FEEDBACK.
- EXTREME ATTENTION TO DETAIL.
- ABLE TO PERCEIVE COLOR AND DEPTH OF FIELD; AND MATCH HUE AND TEXTURE.
- ABLE TO READ AND FOLLOW PATTERNS WITH PRECISION.

We are seeking a full-time leather pattern cutter, working 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday. Each leather garment we make is custom-fitted to the customer, featuring several styles of jackets, pants, and vests. There are also a variety of customizable options for each garment, and each garment is cut from start to finish by the same cutter by hand. We are looking for both speed and precision, the ability to learn quickly, and the ability to take notes.

New applicants will be given 2 weeks to get used to the process by cutting smaller components and accessories, and by week 3, if the right set of skills has been presented, the applicant will begin garment training. A certain level of cutting speed and accuracy will be required within the first 3 months to graduate beyond the probation period.
