About the Opportunity:

The District Attorney’s Office is seeking a detail-oriented, analytically strong Crime Analyst with a primary focus on analyzing internal data along with external data sources (Oregon Criminal Justice Commission, NIBRS, UCR, etc.). The Crime Analyst will work with external public safety partners and other criminal justice agencies collecting relevant data.

This role centers on collecting, standardizing, evaluating, and interpreting data originating from outside the DA’s Office— including police agencies, state and federal systems, public safety partners, specialty courts, community corrections data, and other justice-related external datasets. The Crime Analyst will use external data, along with internal data, to develop products and geospatial mapping for presentation to community members and public safety partners.

Key Responsibilities
External Crime & Public Safety Data Analysis
• Collect, standardize, clean, and maintain a data warehouse for external data sources relevant to crime and public safety, including police department data, OSP crime data, WCCCA, judicial data, community corrections, and federal crime datasets.
• Identify and flag impacts to recurring reports caused by changes in external partner reporting practices or statewide crime reporting standards.
• Conduct quality checks on externally sourced data before inclusion in DA reports.
• Analyze external crime trends to identify emerging patterns, geographic hotspots, and shifts in socioeconomic conditions and criminal activity across jurisdictions.

External Data Repository Management
• Input external datasets into the DA’s central data repository (data warehouse), focusing on standardization, cleaning, and ongoing maintenance.
• Document recurring external data issues or changes in partner data systems.
• Develop and apply external data validation procedures to ensure high-quality analytical outputs.

Reporting, Visualization & Presentation
• Using a variety of data sources to p repare summary reports, tables, charts, maps, and timelines tied to external crime trends and socioeconomic conditions .
• Create handouts and presentation materials for internal teams and external public safety partners.
• Use critical thinking and analytical skills to translate internal and external data into compelling visual formats using Microsoft tools , Tableau , A rc GIS , and other graphic design software applications .
• Develop and maintain a system for aiding in data-driven prosecutions of high- frequency offenders.

Collaboration with External Public Safety Partners
• Work extensively with law enforcement agencies, courts, community corrections, juvenile departments, statewide crime reporting programs, and other partners on data collection and standardization .
• Provide technical consultation on external data trends, projections, and implications for public safety operations.
• Prepare technical responses to external information requests, including public records inquiries.

Ideal Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) :

Knowledge of:

P rinciples of crime analysis, crime prevention, and public safety operations.

Fundamentals of data collection, validation, and quality assurance.

Applicable laws, regulations, and confidentiality requirements (e.g., LEDS/CJIS).

Inte rmediate concepts of qualitative and quantitative analysis.

Standard office practices and business software (Microsoft Excel, Word).

Intermediate GIS mapping concepts and other common data visualization tools.

Skills to :

Managing multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced, high volume work environment.

Remaining organized, composed, and accurate under pressure and shifting priorities.

Communicate clearly and effectively in orally and in writing to convey information to others.

Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify issues, evaluate information, and provide appropriate recommendations or solutions.

Apply strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling sensitive data.

Follow established procedures and meet deadlines under supervision.

Ability to:

Demonstrate knowledge of geospatial and temporal analy tical concepts and apply standard methods and tools with minimal guidance.

Prioritize tasks effectively while maintain ing attention to detail.

Collect, organize, validate , and maintain data from multiple sources.

Prepare routine reports, maps, dashboards, and visualizations.

Assist with data preparation for prosecutorial products and reporting to key stakeholders and the p ublic under the guidance of higher-level analysts.

Maintain confidentiality and adhere to security protocols.

Work cooperatively with diverse teams and incorporate feedback to improve performance.

Preferred Qualifications

Intermediate knowledge of criminal justice system operations

Background in data analytics and/or geographic information systems

Ability to write queries or scripts in one or more syntax

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in public or business administration, statistics, accounting, or a related field that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; AND two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in administrative, operations, or similar analyses. OR

Associate Degree in public or business administration, statistics, accounting, or a related field that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; AND four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience in administrative, operations, or similar analyses. OR

High School Diploma/GED; AND six (6) years of progressively responsible work experience in administrative, operations, budgetary, and similar analyses, of which at least two (2) years of this experience is in the public sector for a medium or large governmental unit.

Must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) cer t if ication within 30 days of employment.
