SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Human Resources Generalist supports the mission and ministries of the organization by providing comprehensive HR services across the employee lifecycle. This role partners with leadership and employees to foster a Christ-centered, respectful, and legally compliant workplace culture. The HR Generalist serves as a trusted resource, balancing ministry values with sound HR practices to support staff who serve vulnerable populations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Result Area #1: Recruitment & Onboarding & Offboarding

Coordinate full-cycle recruitment efforts for UGM.

Collaborate with department managers to identify and update detailed and accurate job descriptions and hiring criteria, overseeing preparation of interview questions specific to the role being advertised.

Assist with job posting of positions via Indeed and UGM Website.

Screens applications, select qualified candidates, schedule and conduct initial interviews.

Manage documentation of all interviews, collect and file references and KLLP’s.

Communicate with hiring team details for candidates moving on to second interviews.

Assist with the second interview process, attend and conduct interviews with managers, directors, and other stakeholders.

Collaborate with the hiring manager and/or other human resource staff during the offer process, identifying and recommending salary ranges, incentives, start dates, and other pertinent details.

Support all mission-aligned hiring practices, including screening for spiritual, cultural and values fit with UGM.

Facilitate onboarding and orientation experiences that communicate mission, expectations, and policies. Secure employee essentials for the first day of employment based on EE position (i.e., request systems network profile, computer/laptop, keys, business cards, name tag, door plate, phone setup, and training in Waypoint, Safety training, Abuse Prevention training, etc.

Facilitate offboarding of employees leaving UGM by gathering paperwork, setting up exit meetings, and sharing the load of exit meetings with other HR team members.

Maintain accurate applicant and employee data in UKG and recruiting systems.
Key Result Area #2: Employee Relations:

Serve as a resource for employees regarding workplace concerns, policies, and benefits working in close coordination with Payroll & Benefits Manager and Director of HR.

Support Director with disciplinary actions, investigations, and conflict resolution processes.

Promote a positive, collaborative, and supportive work environment.
Key Result Area #3: Compliance & Policy Administration

Ensure HR practices comply with federal, state, and local employment laws.

Maintain employee personnel files and confidential records with discretion.

Assist in updating, implementing, and communicating HR policies and procedures.

Support audits, licensing, or accreditation requirements as applicable for employees.
Key Result Area #3: Performance Management & Training

Support performance review processes, goal setting, and employee development efforts.

Assist with coordinating training related to compliance, new manager training, and new hire training (including UGM 101 & UGM 102 and KLLP).

Promote staff engagement, wellness, and retention initiatives.
Key Result Area #4: HR Operations & Support

Prepare HR reports, metrics, and documentation as requested for quarterly HR Committee Meetings.

Assist with special projects, program support, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational and ministry needs.
QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:
Required:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
-
At least two to five (2–5) years of experience in a human resources generalist or similar role.

Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
-
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
-
Commitment to the mission, values, and faith-based identity of UGM.
-
Ability to balance ministry values with accountability and compliance.
-
Must be a grounded and committed Christian: able and willing to model servant-leadership and interested in being part of a ministry to the poor, homeless, drug addicted and mentally ill.

Active member of the body of Christ, in accordance with the Union Gospel Mission Statement of Faith and UGM Distinctives. Strong interpersonal skills – exercising compassion and discernment while modeling the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Able and willing to honor the leadership, chain of command, standards and ministry objectives of Union Gospel Mission.

Must have a teachable spirit and the ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time. Be able to listen and make sound HR related decisions in alignment with UGM purposes.
Preferred:
-
HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent).
-
Experience working in a nonprofit, faith-based, or human services organization.
-
Familiarity with trauma-informed work environments or ministry-based settings.
-
Experience with HRIS and applicant tracking systems.
-
At least one year of human resource management experience is preferred.
