Position Overview
Blue Nose IT Solutions is seeking an experienced Low Voltage Technician III (Lead Field Technician) to join our growing team. This position is responsible for leading field installations, supervising technicians, and ensuring the successful execution of commercial, healthcare, government, and industrial low-voltage projects.
The Technician III serves as the primary field lead, coordinating daily activities, maintaining quality and safety standards, troubleshooting complex system issues, and supporting commissioning efforts. This role bridges field operations with project management, engineering, and programming teams to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead installation crews and assign daily work activities.
- Supervise the installation of structured cabling, fiber optic infrastructure, CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, and network systems.
- Oversee conduit installation, cable routing, terminations, equipment mounting, labeling, and testing.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting of cabling, network infrastructure, and connected devices.
- Assist with system programming, integration, testing, and final commissioning.
- Coordinate daily activities with Project Managers, General Contractors, customers, and other trades.
- Verify installations comply with project drawings, manufacturer specifications, NEC requirements, and company quality standards.
- Maintain accurate redlines, daily reports, punch lists, and project documentation.
- Ensure projects remain on schedule while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
- Enforce company safety policies and maintain a clean, organized job site.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and technical guidance to Technician I and Technician II personnel.
- Train and mentor junior technicians on installation best practices.
- Monitor productivity, workmanship, and job site safety.
- Serve as the primary field contact when the Project Manager is not onsite.
- Identify project risks and communicate solutions proactively.
Technical Skills & Capabilities
- Advanced knowledge of structured cabling systems, including Category 5e, Category 6, Category 6A, and fiber optic infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, intercom, and low-voltage system architecture.
- Experience with copper and fiber cable testing, certification, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and specifications.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
Essential Duties
- Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot:
- Structured cabling systems
- Fiber optic cabling and enclosures
- CCTV systems
- Access control systems
- Network infrastructure
- Wireless systems
- Telecommunications equipment
- Perform fiber optic splicing and termination using industry-standard practices.
- Install and troubleshoot network switches, routers, controllers, and related equipment.
- Utilize testing equipment including Fluke cable analyzers, fiber certification equipment, multimeters, toner/probes, and other diagnostic tools.
- Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and service work on existing systems.
- Complete project documentation including testing reports, as-built drawings, and commissioning records.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working condition.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience installing and servicing commercial low-voltage systems.
- Proven experience leading installation crews on commercial or government projects.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Structured cabling
- Fiber optics
- CCTV
- Access control
- Network infrastructure
- Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
- Working knowledge of NEC requirements and applicable industry standards.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and cable certification tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to travel to customer sites throughout the region.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work in ceilings, and perform physical installation work.
