POSITION: ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR OF CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAM
LOCATION: Board of Education, Child Nutrition Program
POSITION SUMMARY: Under direction from the Supervisor of Child Nutrition, maintains a leadership role in the provision of a food service program that meets all operational standards consistent with federal, state, and local regulations. Assists with ensuring execution of the strategic plan and operational efficiency of the division by developing efficient processes and trainings, targets, and in-process measures to assess results. Conducting standardized training on a variety of topics including Child Nutrition Programs, execution, policies and procedures, accountability measures, CN-specific computer skills, ordering, and inventory skills. Assists with effectively leading the division in the district's commitment to equity and excellence for all staff and students. Assists with ensuring the provision of high quality and nutritious meals in a cost-effective and efficient operation through training methods and documentation; administering Child Nutrition Programs; providing training and oversight to the central production facility and warehouse/distribution operations. Assists with establishing food and equipment specifications and developing systems for the preparation and delivery of services. Assists with determining allocation of resources to provide safe, sanitary, and cost-effective meal programs that are self-supporting within an enterprise fund and acceptable to customers. Assists with leading the implementation of new and updated technology systems to increase the efficiency of the department. Has a thorough understanding of Child Nutrition Program requirements and regulations including NSLP, SBP, CACFP, and SFSP.
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Child Nutrition
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE: At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in food service/hospitality management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts or related field and experience in K-12 Child Nutrition Programs; or
- Bachelor’s degree in any academic major, and a State recognized certificate for school nutrition supervisors (SNS) and experience in K-12 Child Nutrition Programs; or
-
Bachelor’s degree in any academic discipline combined with a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the administration or management of school nutrition or large-scale food service programs; or
-
Related training and documented experience/education and at least eight years of direct experience in school food service management and training of school nutrition programs, including Child Nutrition Program regulations (NSLP, SBP, CACFP, SFSP) and Child Nutrition Program processes (electronic inventory management, physical inventory, production records, ordering, customer service, Point of Service/Sale, managerial duties, food service worker duties, meal pattern requirements and USDA professional development requirements. Related training must include training development, execution, and documentation.

Thorough knowledge of the procedures, policies, practices, and methods of a multi-unit school food service operation.

Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations regarding Child Nutrition Program’s operational and reporting requirements, and training documentation

Knowledge of food and equipment specifications, warehouse and central production facility operations, basic accounting for profit and loss analysis and procurement procedures.

Ability to assist with budgeting and allocation of resources to maintain self-supporting cost-effective programs.

Ability to assist with developing and effectively administering and managing food service and nutrition programs.

Ability to develop training programs and community information services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES:

Assists with developing and utilizing an aligned strategic plan using key measures to determine progress and opportunities for improvement.

Assists with hiring, observing, mentoring, disciplining, and evaluating assigned program staff.

Assists with ensuring the district's commitment to equity and excellence for staff and students, particularly as it relates to hiring for equity and excellence.

Assists with demonstrating through leadership and role modeling high expectations, positive relationships, and cultural competence, as well as a strong commitment to professional development for all staff.

Assists with planning, developing, and implementing all food and nutrition services programs, including staffing; food, supply and equipment orders, and inventories; operation of the food services warehouse; compliance with nutritional standards; maintaining standards in food quality, cost control, operational efficiency, and customer acceptance in all serving sites.

Assists with planning and providing food services for CCPS childcare, Head Start, and other related programs that are not within the customary scope of the school breakfast/lunch program.

Assists with developing standards for food and labor costs.
-
Assists reviewing program operation for cost effectiveness and conformance with program regulations.
-
Assists with inspecting school lunch facilities and operations to ensure that standards of diet, cleanliness, health and safety are maintained.

Assists with keeping patrons and the public informed of the menus and services offered by school cafeterias and of the health and educational benefits gained by children through participating in the school food service program.

Assists with consulting, as needed, with school planners and architects on plans and specifications for new or modernized school cafeteria facilities.

Assists with providing assistance and suggestions for the preparation and serving of USDA commodities as available.

Assists with reviewing and evaluating all requests and recommendations for the purchase of new and replacement equipment.
-
Assists in working with school and community groups who are concerned with food services and nutrition programs and other related areas.

Keeps abreast of new ideas in food services programs and new product offerings, through membership and participation in professional organizations at the local, state, and national level.

Keeps knowledgeable regarding ongoing and new program development. Reviews recent literature and research studies and reports. Evaluates findings and suggests changes or modifications to improve existing programs.

Assists with preparing an annual division operating budget for the Food Services Enterprise Fund with such supporting data as are necessary for clarification to the superintendent and to the Board of Education.

Earns at least 10 hours of continuing education training annually.

Performs related work as required.

FLSA?STATUS: Exempt
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve (12) month position and salary commensurate with the Meet and Confer salary scale 2 for administrative and supervisory employees. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools
