Full Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Geotechnical & Waterfront Drafter to join our engineering team. This role is focused on the production of high-quality construction documents for complex projects. You will be responsible for transforming engineering concepts into plan sets. Typical projects include, but are not limited to, shoreline stabilization, seawall and bulkhead construction, pier and floating dock construction, permanent earth retention solutions, support of excavation systems, and dam construction and rehabilitation.

The ideal candidate is someone who doesn't just "draw lines" but understands the spatial and structural logic behind a grading plan or a bulkhead cross-section.

Key Responsibilities

Plan Set Development: Develop full construction document packages (from 30% to 100% / IFC) for waterfront and geotechnical projects, including seawalls, piers, bulkheads, marinas, slope stabilization, earth retention systems, and support of excavation systems.
Civil 3D Modeling: Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to create surfaces, alignments, and profiles.
Site Grading & Utilities: Execute precise grading plans for shoreline transitions and design utility layouts (stormwater, water, and electrical) adapted for maritime environments.
Structural Detailing: Create detailed sections and shop drawings for structural components, including reinforcement, steel connections, and foundation systems.
Geotechnical Documentation: Translate borehole logs and soil data into visual profiles and cross-sections.
Collaboration: Work closely with Professional Engineers to iterate on designs and ensure all drawings meet local codes and environmental permit requirements.

Technical Qualifications

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in an engineering drafting role on civil and / or structural engineering projects and demonstrated mastery of the required software.
Software Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required. Experience with PDF Exchange and Bluebeam Revu is a significant plus.
Industry Knowledge: Proven experience in:
Civil Plans: Site layouts, horizontal and vertical control.
Grading: Earthwork calculations and surface manipulation.
Structural Detailing: Rebar schedules, steel welding symbols, and timber framing.
Utilities: Coordination of gravity-fed and pressurized pipe networks.

Core Competencies

Spatial Reasoning: Ability to visualize complex 3D environments from 2D sketches.
Accuracy: High attention to detail—specifically regarding scales, layers, and annotation standards.
Communication: Ability to explain technical drafting constraints to the design team and ask the right questions before "hitting the mouse."

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation will depend on years of relevant experience:

Entry Level (~2 Years of Relevant Experience): $28-$30/hour

Mid-Level (3 to 7 Years of Relevant Experience): $32-$40/hour

Senior-Level (8+ Years of Relevant Experience): $44+/hour
