Position Overview
We are hiring an experienced Custom Picture Framer to join our production team. This hands-on role involves cutting and joining wood and metal picture frame moulding on an underpinner joining machine, fitting and mounting custom artwork, and operating professional framing equipment in a fast-paced, on-the-go shop environment. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, meticulous attention to detail, a solid work ethic, and prior experience in custom picture framing, mat cutting, and art fitting.
Responsibilities
- Cut and join custom wood and metal picture frame moulding, including operating an underpinner joining machine Set up and run framing equipment and hand tools safely and efficiently Measure accurately, read a ruler, and work confidently with fractional measurements Work with a range of substrates, including canvas, paper, mural material, and other specialty media Operate a computerized mat cutter and mat artwork to specification Mount artwork using a heat press Cut glass and Plexiglass (acrylic) glazing to size Fit artwork into custom frames ranging from 24" x 36" up to 40" x 60" and larger Apply backing, hanging hardware, and finishing components to custom framed products (including regular, frame-secure, cleat, and cradle hanging systems) Support basic large-format printing tasks and proper handling of printed artwork Stretch oversized canvases, with and without floater frames Use a panel sizer to cut down moulding and other materials Fabricate custom projects such as shadowboxes, custom-painted objects, and spray-painted work
Qualifications
- Basic Mac computer skills Familiarity with labeling systems Ability to operate custom picture framing equipment and machinery Comfortable with regular bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, and stretching Able to stand for extended periods while handling materials Able to lift heavy boxes and frame moulding (25–40 lbs) and access product stored high on ladders Able to load finished artwork into a truck for shipment Experience with art, signage, window vinyl, or graphic installation is a plus
