Furry Fellas Pet Service has proudly served Rhode Island since 2006. We are seeking experienced, reliable, and detail-oriented animal care professionals looking for a long-term position with an established company.
We are currently hiring two Core Pet Sitter / Dog Walkers for the Providence territory: one AM Shift position and one PM Shift position.
These are long-term Core positions for candidates seeking approximately 20–40 hours per week as their client route develops. New hires begin part-time during paid training and route development, with hours increasing as clients are added and route density grows.
This position may be a great fit for someone seeking approximately 20–25+ hours per week or someone interested in building toward approximately 30–40 hours per week. Actual hours vary based on client bookings, seasonal demand, availability, and route density.

Based on actual payroll records, established Pet Care Professionals have averaged approximately $18–$20+/hour in total compensation. Actual earnings vary based on route density, visit length and mix, gratuities, mileage reimbursement, holiday assignments, overnight services, certifications, experience, and client demand.
What Will My Schedule Look Like?
Each territory is covered by a dedicated AM Shift sitter and PM Shift sitter who work together as a team.
Each sitter receives a consistent weekly schedule consisting of:
- Three Regular Days
- Two Extended Coverage Days
- Two Consecutive Days Off
Your assigned workdays and availability schedule remain consistent each week, while your actual visits and hours vary based on client bookings and seasonal demand. Making it easier to plan appointments, family time, vacations, and other commitments.
AM Shift
Regular Days: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday7:00 AM–3:00 PM

Days Off: Friday & Saturday
PM Shift

Days Off: Sunday & Monday
Please Note: Extended Coverage Days do not mean working continuously from 7:00 AM–9:00 PM. You are available to accept scheduled client visits throughout the service window. Your actual daily schedule varies based on client bookings, route density, and seasonal demand.
Service Area
Providence, with occasional travel to East Providence, Pawtucket, and bordering areas of Cranston for backup purposes.
Who We’re Looking For
You should have:
- Prior professional animal care experience
- Excellent attention to detail, communication, and customer service skills
- A reliable, punctual, and dependable work style
- Comfort working independently and managing your daily schedule
- Experience safely handling dogs of various sizes, breeds, temperaments, and energy levels
- Comfort walking dogs outdoors year-round in various weather conditions
- A reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance
- A smartphone with reliable internet access
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Interest in a long-term position with a professional pet care company
What We Mean by Professional Animal Care Experience
Professional animal care experience means caring for animals in a professional, volunteer, or educational setting.
Examples include professional pet sitting/dog walking; veterinary hospitals or clinics; animal shelters or rescues; dog daycare or boarding; grooming; dog training; veterinary technician/assistant work; animal care technician work; veterinary or animal science internships/externships; equine/farm animal care; wildlife rehabilitation; and zoo, aquarium, or similar professional animal care experience.
What You’ll Do
Your responsibilities include providing professional in-home pet care throughout your assigned territory, including:
- Dog walking and pet care visits
- Cleaning up after pets and maintaining a clean, safe environment
- Following detailed client care instructions
- Documenting visits through our client-management system
- Taking photos and sending a summary after every visit
- Traveling between clients within your assigned territory
- Bringing in mail and newspapers
- Watering indoor and outdoor plants
- Checking clients’ homes for concerns
- Completing other household tasks included with our services
Visit Arrival Windows
Most visits are scheduled within designated arrival windows rather than at an exact appointment time.
- Morning: 7:00 AM–10:00 AM
- Mid-Day: 11:00 AM–3:00 PM
- Evening: 4:00 PM–6:00 PM
- Night/Bedtime: 7:00 PM–8:00 PM, arriving by 8:00 PM to finish by 9:00 PM
- Some Cat & Small Pet Visits: 7:00 AM–8:00 PM
- Optional Overnight Pet Sitting in addition to regularly scheduled days: 8:00 PM–5:00 AM
Compensation
Position Type: W-2 Employee (not an independent contractor)
Per-Visit Compensation
- 15-minute visit: $9.00
- 20-minute visit: $10.00
- 30-minute visit: $10.50
- 45-minute visit: $12.00–$13.50
- 60-minute visit: $16.00–$18.00
Mileage is paid while traveling between client visits.
Please Note: This position is paid per visit, not by the hour. The hourly range displayed by the job board does not reflect the per-visit compensation structure.
For team members who have built their client route and demonstrated strong reliability, a transition to hourly pay, including eligible drive time between clients, may be considered upon request.
