Job Summary

We are seeking an accurate, detail-oriented Part-Time Tax Preparer with prior experience to join our team. In this role, you will leverage professional tax software to review financial records, gather necessary documentation, and prepare accurate federal and state tax returns for individuals and small businesses.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Software Data Entry & Preparation: Input intake data accurately into professional tax software to prepare and review federal, state, and local individual (1040) and small business returns.
Client Intake & Record Review: Conduct client intake interviews, organize financial documentation (W-2s, 1099s, expense reports), and reconcile client data within software programs.
Compliance & Optimization: Apply knowledge of federal and state tax laws within tax software to identify eligible deductions, tax credits, and exemptions while ensuring 100% compliance.
Review & Diagnostics: Run software diagnostics, clear error flags, and verify figures on final tax packages to prevent math, data entry, or electronic filing errors.
Client Communication: Address client inquiries regarding missing documents, filing statuses, and tax preparation questions in a clear, professional manner.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: Minimum 1–3 years of hands-on experience preparing individual or business tax returns using professional tax software.
Tax Software Proficiency: Direct experience with major tax preparation software platforms (e.g., Drake, ProConnect, UltraTax, Lacerte, ProSeries, or TurboTax) is strictly required.
IRS Requirements: Active PTIN (Preparer Tax Identification Number) required (or eligible to renew immediately).
Tax Knowledge: Solid understanding of standard federal and state tax filing guidelines, schedules, and standard deductions.
Technical & Office Skills: Basic computer proficiency, strong attention to detail, and familiarity with general office tools (e.g., MS Excel, Word, or PDF management tools).

Preferred Qualifications

Active CTEC certification or Enrolled Agent (EA) status is a plus.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Work Location: Hybrid remote in New York, NY 10016
