Full Job Description

Job Title: Controller
Location: Palm Desert, CA
Work Arrangement: Fully Onsite
Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations for a non-profit organization in Palm Desert. This is a fully onsite opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who brings strong technical expertise, team leadership experience, and a solid understanding of nonprofit financial management.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close
Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and internal management reports
Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements
Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning activities
Coordinate audit preparation and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors
Monitor grant funding, restricted funds, and related reporting requirements
Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal processes
Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of 2–3 accounting professionals
Partner with leadership to provide financial insight and support strategic decision-making
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required
Non-profit accounting experience required
Prior experience in a Controller or senior-level accounting leadership role
Experience supervising a small team, including 2–3 direct reports
Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and audit support
Ability to work effectively in a fully onsite environment
Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
This is an excellent opportunity for a mission-driven accounting leader who enjoys balancing strategic oversight with hands-on execution.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including prior leadership responsibility.
Demonstrated background in nonprofit accounting is required.
Previous experience in a Controller or other senior accounting management role.
Proven ability to supervise and support a small team of accounting professionals.
Strong command of financial reporting, budgeting, reconciliations, internal controls, and audit preparation.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fully onsite setting.
