The Director of Human Resources is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team responsible for shaping and executing people strategies that support Penn Tank Lines’ continued growth, operational excellence, and culture.
Serving as the Company’s senior Human Resources advisor, this role partners closely with executive leadership to strengthen organizational capability, develop leaders, and ensure compliant, consistent, and effective employment practices across a multi-state transportation environment.
This position is well suited for a strategic Human Resources leader who combines strong business acumen with deep employment law expertise. The successful candidate will be a visible and engaged business partner who is comfortable navigating complex employee matters, coaching leaders, driving organizational change, and building a proactive Human Resources function that supports business success. Success in this role requires balancing practical business judgment with sound employment practices, operational partnership, and a commitment to developing strong leaders across the organization.
Key Responsibilities

Partner with executive leadership to develop workforce strategies, organizational structure, succession planning, and talent initiatives aligned with business objectives

Lead all Human Resources functions, including talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation, benefits, payroll oversight, performance management, compliance, HRIS, and employee communications

Develop, implement, and interpret Human Resources policies and programs that promote accountability, operational effectiveness, and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws

Serve as the Company’s senior advisor on employment law and Human Resources matters, providing guidance on investigations, employee relations, leave administration, accommodations, wage and hour compliance, and employment decisions

Lead and develop the Human Resources team while coaching and supporting leaders throughout the organization to strengthen leadership effectiveness and accountability

Drive organizational initiatives that improve leadership capability, Human Resources processes, systems, and the overall employee experience while supporting business growth and organizational change

Analyze workforce metrics, turnover trends, payroll data, and Human Resources analytics to identify opportunities, reduce organizational risk, and support informed business decisions

Champion the Company’s “Resilient People” philosophy by developing programs that strengthen leadership, employee engagement, well-being, accountability, and organizational resilience
Salary: Salary starting at $150,000, with final compensation based on qualifications, experience, and overall fit for the role.
Required Skills & Abilities:

Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and multi-state employment laws, wage and hour compliance, payroll practices, and Human Resources best practices

Proven ability to build credibility with executive leadership and provide clear, practical guidance on complex Human Resources and organizational issues

Executive presence with the confidence to influence decisions, challenge assumptions constructively, and communicate candidly with leaders at all levels

Strong business acumen with the ability to align Human Resources strategies with operational objectives

Demonstrated success leading Human Resources teams, coaching leaders, and developing high-performing employees

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with experience using workforce data and Human Resources analytics to support decision-making

Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution in a fast-moving, multi-state environment
Other Requirements:
Required

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field

Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive Human Resources experience, including at least three (3) years in a senior Human Resources leadership role

Experience supporting multi-state operations and ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws

Experience developing Human Resources policies, leading workplace investigations, coaching leaders, and managing complex employee relations matters

Strong working knowledge of HRIS systems, payroll systems, and Microsoft Office
Preferred

Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline

SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification

Experience in transportation, logistics, distribution, manufacturing, or another operational environment

Experience supporting acquisitions, organizational growth, or significant organizational change
Work Environment

This position is based primarily at our headquarters in Chester Springs, PA

While limited hybrid flexibility may be considered based on business needs, the role requires a consistent on-site presence to effectively lead the HR team and partner with leaders across the organization

Frequent travel to Company terminals and other business locations may be required
