The Director of Security is responsible for the strategic leadership and operational oversight of all safety, security, and risk management programs supporting the mixed-use property, including Thompson Dallas, The National Residences, commercial tenants, parking facilities, loading areas, and all CAM-managed common areas.
This position provides both strategic direction and hands-on leadership, ensuring the safety and security of guests, residents, tenants, visitors, colleagues, contractors, and physical assets. The Director serves as the property's subject matter expert on security operations, emergency preparedness, regulatory compliance, investigations, and risk management while maintaining an active presence throughout daily operations.
Working collaboratively with hotel leadership, residential management, property management, commercial tenants, ownership representatives, and public safety agencies, the Director develops proactive security strategies, supports operational excellence, and fosters a culture of safety and accountability across the entire property. Responsibilities include:
Leadership & Operational Oversight
- Lead all safety and security operations across the mixed-use property while maintaining a visible, hands-on leadership presence.
- Establish departmental goals, operating standards, service expectations, and performance metrics aligned with Hyatt values and ownership expectations.
- Partner with the Assistant Security Manager to ensure consistent execution of departmental priorities and operational excellence.
- Provide guidance and support during significant operational events, emergencies, VIP visits, and complex incidents.
- Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and exceptional guest and resident service.
Security & Risk Management
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve security strategies, emergency response plans, crisis management procedures, business continuity initiatives, and fire and life safety programs.
- Conduct comprehensive security risk assessments across Thompson Dallas, The National Residences, commercial tenant spaces, parking facilities, loading docks, and CAM-managed common areas.
- Lead complex investigations involving safety and security incidents, workplace violence, theft, fraud, liability claims, employee misconduct, guest or resident concerns, and criminal activity.
- Provide investigative guidance and oversight for routine incidents managed by Security leadership.
- Advise Executive Committee members, department leaders, residential leadership, and commercial tenants on security risks, operational vulnerabilities, and mitigation strategies.
- Serve as the Incident Commander during major emergencies and coordinate response efforts with internal departments and external agencies.
Compliance, Training & Security Programs
- Own and administer the department's compliance calendar, ensuring completion of all required federal, state, local, Hyatt, ownership, and CAM-required safety and security training.
- Maintain compliance documentation, regulatory records, inspection reports, certifications, audits, and required departmental logs.
- Oversee and audit the property's key control, access management, and credentialing programs to ensure accountability and policy compliance.
- Develop and facilitate security awareness, workplace violence prevention, emergency preparedness, active threat response, and risk mitigation training for Security personnel, hotel leadership, department managers, and tenant representatives.
- Coach division leaders and business partners on identifying, reporting, and mitigating operational safety and security risks.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Manage relationships with contract security providers, security technology vendors, monitoring companies, and other contracted service partners.
- Oversee security technologies including CCTV, access control, visitor management, intrusion detection, and life safety systems.
- Serve as the primary liaison with law enforcement, fire departments, emergency responders, regulatory agencies, ownership representatives, and CAM stakeholders.
- Build collaborative partnerships with hotel leadership, residential management, Engineering, property management, and commercial tenants to ensure consistent security practices throughout the property.
People Leadership & Administration
- Lead recruitment, selection, onboarding, retention, and succession planning for the Security department.
- Coach, mentor, and develop Security leadership and team members while promoting continuous learning and career growth.
- Conduct performance evaluations for Security leadership and oversee the department's performance management process.
- Partner with Human Resources on employee relations, investigations, recognition, corrective action, and engagement initiatives.
- Develop staffing models and labor plans that support operational needs across the property.
- Review and approve departmental payroll, schedules, overtime utilization, and labor expenses.
- Develop and manage departmental operating budgets and capital improvement recommendations.
Continuous Improvement
- Analyze incident trends, compliance metrics, staffing data, and operational performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Recommend and implement process improvements that enhance safety, security, operational efficiency, and the guest experience.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for hotel leadership, ownership, and CAM stakeholders.
