Cannon Country Senior Living is seeking positive and motivated Unlicensed Caregivers/Resident Assistants to join our small, home-like assisted-living community.
We are currently hiring for part-time, casual, and on-call positions. Applicants must have weekend availability and be willing to work a combination of morning, evening, or overnight on-call shifts based on facility needs.
This is a hands-on position that includes personal care, medication administration, resident engagement, meal assistance, documentation, laundry, housekeeping, and helping maintain a safe and comfortable home for our residents.
Scheduling and Availability
We are currently looking for caregivers who can help cover:
- Morning shifts
- Evening shifts
- Weekend shifts
- Overnight emergency on-call coverage
- Additional casual or on-call shifts as needed
This position is ideal for someone seeking flexible, part-time hours who is willing to help provide additional coverage when regular staff are unavailable.
Employees providing designated emergency on-call coverage receive an additional $5.00 per hour shift differential, bringing the hourly rate to $23.00 per hour during eligible emergency on-call coverage.
What You’ll Do
Provide Compassionate Resident Care
- Assist residents with dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting, mobility, escorting, and other activities of daily living.
- Follow each resident’s individualized service plan.
- Encourage residents to remain as independent as possible.
- Offer choices while supporting resident dignity, privacy, preferences, and personal routines.
- Provide reassurance, companionship, and emotional support.
- Use a calm, kind, and respectful tone, including during challenging situations.
- Complete routine health-related procedures as trained and delegated by the RN.
-Medication Administration
After completing the required training and RN delegation, responsibilities may include:
- Administering medications according to the Medication Administration Record.
- Providing medication reminders.
- Following procedures for scheduled, PRN, narcotic, new, and changed medications.
- Accurately documenting medication administration.
- Reordering medications and related supplies.
- Reporting medication concerns, refusals, changes, or errors promptly.
- Following medication-safety and infection-control procedures.
- Documentation and Communication
- Document services provided during each shift.
- Record and report changes in a resident’s physical, emotional, cognitive, or behavioral condition.
- Complete incident reports when required.
- Read shift communications and remain informed about resident needs.
- Communicate professionally with residents, families, coworkers, supervisors, and outside providers.
- Report unusual symptoms, medication concerns, safety hazards, or changes in condition promptly.
- Maintain resident confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.
- Housekeeping, Laundry, and Organization
Because Cannon Country is a small residential community, all caregivers share responsibility for keeping the facility clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming.
Responsibilities may include:
- Making beds and changing bedding.
- Completing resident and facility laundry.
- Folding, hanging, and returning clothing and linens.
- Cleaning and disinfecting resident rooms and bathrooms.
- Vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors.
- Emptying trash and recycling.
- Cleaning spills and addressing safety hazards promptly.
- Wiping furniture, tables, counters, doors, grab bars, and frequently touched surfaces.
- Cleaning toilets, sinks, showers, shower chairs, commodes, mirrors, and bathroom fixtures.
- Cleaning common areas, dining areas, entryways, and hallways.
- Organizing resident supplies, clothing, linens, activity supplies, and storage areas.
- Restocking gloves, hygiene products, incontinence supplies, paper products, and linens.
- Completing assigned daily, weekly, and shift-specific cleaning checklists.
- Following infection-control procedures when handling soiled laundry or bodily fluids.
- Respecting resident belongings and never discarding or relocating personal property without permission.
Resident care and safety are always the first priority. Caregivers are also expected to use available time productively and take reasonable initiative in maintaining the home.
- Meals and Kitchen Support
- Assist with basic meal preparation as assigned.
- Set and clear dining tables.
- Serve meals and beverages.
- Assist residents during meals when included in their service plans.
- Wash and put away dishes.
- Clean counters, tables, sinks, appliances, and food-preparation surfaces.
- Sweep and mop kitchen and dining areas.
- Label, date, rotate, and store food properly.
- Check for expired or spoiled food.
- Organize pantry, refrigerator, freezer, and kitchen supplies.
- Follow food-safety and sanitation procedures.
- Activities and Resident Engagement
- Encourage and escort residents to scheduled activities.
- Lead simple activities as assigned.
- Socialize and spend meaningful time with residents.
- Listen to resident ideas and help incorporate their interests into programming.
- Promote a positive, active, and welcoming environment.
- Be a Supportive Team Member
- Work cooperatively with caregivers, nursing staff, management, kitchen staff, and other team members.
- Communicate important resident information during shift report.
- Participate positively in staff meetings and training.
- Assist coworkers when needed to ensure resident needs are met.
- Follow through promptly on assigned duties.
- Help train new employees after demonstrating competency.
- Respond appropriately during emergencies, severe weather, fire alarms, or other unusual situations.
- Remain calm, flexible, compassionate, and professional.
- Be available to provide backup or emergency coverage when scheduled for on-call duties.
- Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or relevant previous work experience.
- CNA, NAR, or HHA certification is preferred but not required.
- Previous experience working with older adults is preferred.
- Genuine interest in caring for seniors.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Weekend availability is required.
- Ability to work morning, evening, or overnight on-call shifts based on availability and facility needs.
- Ability to respond reliably when scheduled for emergency on-call coverage.
- Ability to communicate respectfully and professionally.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and complete documentation in English.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Ability to use and remain responsible for a facility-provided phone while on duty.
- Willingness to complete required orientation, training, competency evaluations, background studies, and health screenings.
- Ability to maintain resident confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Physical Requirements
This is an active, hands-on caregiving position. Employees must be able to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, reach, twist, kneel, and squat.
- Push, pull, and assist with resident mobility and equipment.
- Frequently lift or carry items weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Lift up to 50 pounds when necessary.
- Request assistance when a resident, piece of furniture, mattress, or equipment cannot be moved safely by one person.
- Work around cleaning products, bodily fluids, infectious illnesses, laundry, food, and common household odors while following required safety precautions.
