Director of Development – US Renewables LLC

Location: Flexible (Frequent travel required)

Reports To: CEO

About US Renewables (USR):
US Renewables is a leading developer of utility-scale solar and battery storage projects, dedicated to advancing sustainable energy solutions across the United States. We partner closely with independent power producers (IPPs), institutional investors, and major energy developers to deliver high-quality, strategically positioned energy assets that drive innovation and grid reliability.

Position Overview:
The Director of Development will lead the full development lifecycle of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects, from site identification through financial close. This role is highly client-facing, engaging directly with IPPs, institutional investors, and major energy developers. The Director will oversee and coordinate all project development phases, including real estate acquisition, permitting, interconnection, stakeholder engagement, local government presentations, land negotiations, and preparation for financing and divestment.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Development Management:

· Lead site identification, due diligence, and acquisition processes, ensuring alignment with development strategy.

· Negotiate land deals, including site leases, purchases, easements, tax abatements, crossing agreements, and other access-related agreements.

· Present projects at planning commission meetings, city councils, county boards, and other local government public hearings to secure necessary approvals.

· Oversee permitting and zoning processes, coordinating closely with local authorities, environmental consultants, and legal teams to mitigate project risks.

· Manage interconnection processes, including feasibility studies, interconnection agreements, and liaising with utilities and transmission operators.

· Address and resolve title issues, ensuring clean, marketable title prior to project financing and divestment.

Stakeholder & Client Engagement:

· Serve as the primary liaison with external stakeholders, including landowners, local communities, governmental bodies, and regulatory authorities.

· Form and execute a strategy to foster local support for the project from local stakeholders, including organized labor, economic development organizations, etc.

· Act as the principal contact for USSH’s institutional investor and developer clients, ensuring transparent communication and alignment of project objectives.

Strategic Leadership:

· Collaborate with the CEO and executive team to define and execute strategic market-entry and expansion initiatives.

Team Management:

· Directly manage and mentor a team of associates and development managers, fostering professional growth and high performance.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Business, Finance, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline.

· Minimum 7-10 years of experience in renewable energy project development, with significant experience in utility-scale solar and/or BESS.

· Proven track record managing multiple projects through full lifecycle development and successful financial close.

· Extensive experience interfacing directly with IPPs, institutional investors, and other large-scale energy developers.

· Strong understanding of interconnection, permitting, real estate acquisition, and regulatory frameworks.

· Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor development teams effectively.

· Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with GIS tools such as ArcGIS and Google Earth.

· Ability and willingness to travel 25-50% to project sites and stakeholder meetings.
