JOB SUMMARY
The Project Superintendent provides field supervision to ensure Westwood’s delivery of quality construction services to its clients by effectively managing all field project activities for jobs assigned to them. It is expected that assigned projects will be completed safely, on time, and within approved budget, ensuring the client’s expectations and company’s financial objectives are met. Failure to deliver these outcomes could result in diminished project quality, project delays, profit erosion, legal ramifications, lost credibility, physical injury or death, and loss of clientele. Adhering to company policies, procedures, and practices to support the company’s mission, vision, and values are key responsibilities to be successful in this role.
This position is responsible for managing the execution of the contracted scope of work through multiple subcontract tradesmen, ensuring safety and compliance with the project plans and specifications. Achievement of the contractual project schedule, quality, and financial goals are the paramount requirements of this position. Possessing and applying the required competencies necessary to meet all regulatory and licensing requirements of the project including permitting, building department inspections, utility coordination and landlord requirements are key competencies. The Project Superintendent will effectively communicate verbally and in writing to both internal and external contacts by providing detailed written and photo documentation of project progress and quality on a regular basis using the company’s preferred formats to do so.

The Project Superintendent is a seasoned professional with advanced construction knowledge, demonstrating expertise in the means and methods of all trades and a thorough understanding of project-specific scopes of work. Proficient in blueprint and plan reading, they ensure precise layout and location of improvements. Technology-savvy, the Project Superintendent adapts to emerging construction management tools. Effective communication skills facilitate supervision and motivation of diverse subcontract resources, ensuring coordinated efforts to achieve project objectives. With strong planning capabilities, the Project Superintendent manages interruptions, coordinates trades, and works within tight deadlines. Resilience in handling high levels of stress is integral to maintaining project schedules and successful project outcomes.
JOB DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supervision and Leadership: oversee all field operations by being present during any on-site construction activity.
- Weekly Project Meetings: conducts weekly coordination meetings with project teams and subcontractors and prepares daily field status reports; leads pre-construction meetings.
- Project Oversight: supervises the work of all trades to ensure adherence to contract plans and specifications, quality control, and compliance with schedule. Read and understand project plans and specifications.
- Technical Direction: provides technical direction and has responsibility for the safety, costs, productivity, profitability, and overall quality of the work (including self-performed work) for the projects.
- Project Schedule Management: completes a 4-week look ahead schedule and updates weekly. Drive a sense of urgency by all trades to ensure achievement of budget and schedule objectives.
- Reports and Metrics: maintains daily reports and provides quality photos as well as a description of the project’s progress to Project Manager for inclusion in weekly reports.
- Project Permitting/Inspections: initiation and coordination of all permitting and inspections by building department, landlord, and owner.
- Safety Adherence: establish and enforce the company’s onsite safety plan (including weekly safety meetings conducting inspections, addressing unsafe acts, and submitting safety reports).
- Communication: Interacts effectively with owners, teams and other stakeholders to maintain a positive project environment and exceptional client experience; maintains open communication with all Westwood personnel and external contacts.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A college degree or professional certification preferred.
- A Project Management Certification is highly preferred.
- Must have a minimum of 7 years of experience in construction supervision.
- OSHA 30 and CPR/Fist Aid is not required but will be provided and must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment.
- Bilingual in Spanish is highly desirable.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the employee will encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. The passage of employees through the work area is average and normal. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in this work environment is usually low, but at times can become loud.

This position involves supervisory work at a construction site where duties will be performed both indoors and outdoors and would be subject to environmental conditions.

Pay: $78,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
