Position Summary
Based in our Denver (Englewood), Colorado office, you'll contribute to impactful mining projects around the world, focusing on the design and management of tailings dams and heap leach facilities. This role offers exciting opportunities for international travel, client interaction, and hands-on experience in the dynamic mining sector. Civil Engineers and geological engineers would be the best fit for the position, but other engineers with an interest in the mining industry, soils, rock mechanics, numerical modeling, or other areas are welcome.
Responsibilities
- Support on-going Engineer-of-Record services for tailings and heap leach projects located around the world.
- Perform geotechnical analyses, including stability, seepage, and deformation analyses, to support the design of mining infrastructure such as tailings storage facilities and heap leach pads.
- Perform geotechnical analyses, including pavement structural section, foundation, retaining walls and slope stability analyses, to support the design of transportation infrastructure.
- Assist in the generation of construction and design drawings and figures using Autodesk Civil 3D.
- Assist in the development of soil and foundation recommendations for surface infrastructure.
- Assist with tailings dam breach evaluations.
- Contribute to the development of geotechnical reports, design reports, presentations, and proposals.
- Complete geotechnical site assessments and associated field services for development of transportation and mining infrastructure.
- Support quality assurance and quality control activities during construction of tailings dams and heap leach facilities.
- Support material characterization activities, including field data collection, designing and overseeing laboratory programs, interpreting laboratory data, developing appropriate models, and writing technical specifications for construction.
- Other work as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Science (minimum); Master of Science (preferred). Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering degrees from ABET accredited universities are preferred.
- Professional Experience: 0+ years for Entry-Level. 2+ year for Staff-Level.
- Computer Software: Significant experience with MS Office Suite. Some experience using standard geotechnical design software (Rocscience, GeoStudios, etc.); numerical modeling experience and programming experience are advantageous; and basic understanding of Autodesk Civil 3D.
- Geotechnical Laboratory: Proficient with standard material testing and index tests.
- Required Registrations / Professional Development: Successful completion of FE Exam. Professional Engineer registration with greater than 4 years of experience.
- Travel: Must have ability to travel in the U.S. and internationally to support field programs. Travel periods could be up to several weeks or more.
- Physical Demands: Position may require sitting for extended periods of time, extended hours working on a computer and lifting up to 30 pounds. Field assignments are located in a variety of climactic conditions and may require standing, squatting, bending, the use of machinery and a variety of standard geotechnical tools.
- Technical writing: Proficiency with technical writing is expected.
- Other (Project Level): Working knowledge of or willingness to learn geotechnical monitoring instrumentation; various geotechnical tools for subsurface assessments (drilling methods; CPT; geophysics; etc.); numerical modeling methods and software.
