About Us: Nevada State Medical Association is searching for an Executive Director. NSMA is the oldest and largest professional organization of Nevada physicians. NSMA represents more than 2000 physicians, residents and medical students, and has advocated for high quality health care since 1875. Headquartered in Reno, Nevada, NSMA also operates an office in Las Vegas, Nevada and during the legislative sessions, an office in Carson City, Nevada. Major Responsibilities

The Executive Director (ED) is the key management leader of NSMA. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include membership development, advocacy, marketing, and community outreach. The position works with the NSMA’s leadership, including the Council and NSMA President to ensure the success of the organization. The ED manages the non-profit association by hiring and overseeing staff, ensuring good fiscal oversight over budget and financials, acting as spokesperson for the organization and implementing strategic initiatives as outlined by the Council including government affairs activities and other initiatives that support the overall mission of the organization and to enhance membership and membership value within the organization.

The ED supports the Association by directing office operations, membership renewals and membership database, and ensuring that boards and commissions are appropriately staffed, with agendas, minutes and other materials accurately and timely distributed. The ED also directs and oversees planning and execution of the Annual Meeting, creates a budget for the Annual meeting for approval by the EC and Finance Commission and works with the EC, Council and other Association members to ensure the smooth operation of an innovative organization to include enhancing membership value within the organization.

NSMA Staff/Operations:

The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring appropriate staffing pursuant to budget and needs of the Association. The ED ensures an efficient and positive work environment for NSMA staff, and that staff has appropriate duties and training. The position supports the needs of the NSMA Executive Committee, Council (Board of Directors), standing Commissions, the NSMA House of Delegates through ensuring a successful annual meeting of the House of Delegates and resolution process and ad hoc committees.

Office Operations

The Executive Director is responsible for:

· Ensure excellent customer service for any NSMA member

· Cultivate an efficient and positive office environment for NSMA employees

· Manage the Association’s technology and financial operations;

· Develop and manage the Association budget in coordination with the Finance Council;

· Manage and keep good records of payroll and employee benefits in collaboration with outside payroll service;

· Manage AR/AP, using QuickBooks and disburse payments for Association expenses pursuant to the NSMA Policies and Procedures or at the direction of the Finance Commission;

· Support the Finance Commission, Treasurer and President by producing monthly financial statements and other reports as requested;

· Maintaining NSMA master calendar

· Screening, responding to and distributing incoming communications in person, by telephone, or by electronic or postal mail;

· Reviewing operating practices to implement improvements, create cost savings and achieve efficiencies where possible;

· Conducting annual equipment inventory and periodic updates as necessary; and maintaining facilities inventory control and purchasing of facility supplies.

Membership

NSMA is a member-driven organization. The ED is responsible for delivering benefits to members and promoting the value of membership to prospective members. The position is responsible for providing effective communication with NSMA membership on relevant issues through NSMA publications, NSMA internet site; periodic reports on legislative and governmental activities; periodic reports at meetings of county/local societies and related groups; and timely updates on relevant issues.

The Executive Director shall, in collaboration with NSMA and county Medical Society staff, oversee the renewal of Membership Dues and Assessments including:

· Scheduling timely invoicing and special mailings as necessary

· Overseeing receipt of payments

· Troubleshooting membership invoice issues with an emphasis on customer service to members

· Acting as key point of contact with Atlas system or other membership database

· Ensuring staff appropriately trained on Atlas system or other membership database.

Boards and Commissions

The Executive Director to ensure the smooth operations of NSMA’s Commissions, including:

· Working with Commission chairs to schedule meetings;

· Providing financial updates,

· Working with NSMA staff and Commission Chairs to prepare and distribute agendas, record minutes; and perform any other tasks necessary support the commission meetings;

· Attending other meetings as requested by the EC or Council;

Annual Meeting

The ED, in conjunction with the NSMA staff, is responsible for overseeing the planning of the NSMA Annual Meeting including:

· Developing the timeline

· Soliciting bids

Creating budget

· Soliciting sponsorship

· Working with staff to promote the event, create the materials and obtain awards and perform other duties necessary to conduct a successful meeting.

The ED is the leader of a close team and is responsible for other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should share the mission of the NSMA to promote high-quality healthcare in Nevada and advocate for physicians and patients.

The ideal candidate will have the following experience and knowledge:

· A bachelor’s degree.

· Transparent and high integrity leadership.

· Five or more years senior nonprofit management experience or other relevant experience.

· Experience and skill in working with Board and Commissions.

· High level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers and donors.

· Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to potential members, sponsors, volunteers and the community.

· Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.

· A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.

· Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers.

· Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.

· Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.

· Strong written and oral communication skills.

· Strong public speaking ability.

· Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Advanced experience with computer technology including Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, Client Record Management Systems (Atlas), and social medial platforms.

· Demonstrated organization, prioritization and time management skills.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Demonstrated ability to think critically and act strategically.

· Solution oriented.

· Willingness to accept training opportunities;

· Exercises good judgment and decision-making ability.

· Courteous to others.

· Attention to detail and accuracy.

· Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary; and

· Flexibility to travel within Nevada or domestically as needed.
