Full Job Description

SUMMARY

Job Summary The Practical Nursing Instructor provides comprehensive instruction to practical nursing program students. One primary component of the assignment is to provide classroom, lab and clinical instruction to students. This position may be assigned to a variety of clinical rotations in acute care or long-term care facilities and will teach didactic and practical exercise portions of the pre-clinical and clinical curriculum for the practical nursing program. Incumbent will participate collaboratively and professionally with faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and the college, and collective and individual interest of its staff and student body. Incumbent will support the guiding expectations of the college embodied in the mission and vision.

This position qualifies for an additional $22,000 in High-Wage High Demand annual stipend
This is a 214/7, full time, non-tenure-track faculty position to begin in Fall Quarter 2026 (September 21. 2026)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & OTHER DUTIES

Essential Functions

Teach, coordinate and provide both clinical and didactic instruction to nursing students that help develop student competency in the utilization of all elements of the nursing process, planning and organizing their work schedules, assisting as a nurse in teaching clients, functioning as a Licensed Registered Nurse within the health care delivery system including interpersonal skills, problem solving and decision making.
Coordinate the delivery of instruction to nursing students with the other nursing program faculty and ensure that instruction design and delivery supports the approved objectives of the program in accordance with WAC 246-840-514.
Monitor student outcomes with other nursing faculty and employers and adjust course content to facilitate student success in accordance with WAC 246-840-514.
Write, develop and update course curriculum documentation, including performance objectives, competencies, lesson plans and content by analyzing industry needs in the field of nursing.
Develop and/or maintain industry-based program accreditation, and/or ensure students are prepared for and have the opportunity to obtain relevant industry credentials and certifications.
Ensure that instruction is consistent with current industry standards, technologies, procedures, equipment and materials.
Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements.
Mentor, encourage, counsel and guide students toward the completion of program requirements i.e., interpersonal relationships, career goals and responsible work habits.
Ensure that appropriate safety practices are used at all times, students are knowledgeable of safety techniques, and all equipment is maintained in a safe working condition.
Use effective competency-based teaching techniques, instructional materials, and appropriate media support in conducting classroom and laboratoryprojects.
Provide individualized instruction, as needed to support student success.
Work with other instructors and support services personnel to ensure a cohesive vocational learning environment dedicated to providing industry with qualified entry-level persons.
Remain current with industry standards in order to ensure that instruction is consistent with currenttechnologies.
Be knowledgeable of and equitably enforce college policies, regulations, and college operating procedures.
Maintain accurate written records and timelines asrequired in accordance with WAC 246-840-513.
Requisition, maintain control of and safeguard inventories of equipment and supplies assigned to the program
Cooperate with and assist administration in its responsibility in the recruitment of students and promotion of the nursing program.
Attend and actively participate in staff meetings.
Develop and/or maintain industry-based program accreditation, and ensure students are prepared for and have the opportunity to obtain relevant industry credentials and certifications.
Deliver classroom management to maintain suitable learning environment by responding appropriately to student conduct/problems and aid in solving them in accordance with college procedures.
Lead and participate in Nursing Program committees.
Participate in professional development activities and be willing to obtain a Master’s degree within 5 years of the start of the employment.
Ability to teach and mentor students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds with sensitivity and inclusion.

Non-Essential/Other Functions

Maintain friendly and cooperative relationships with respective Healthcarepartners.
In cooperation with other program faculty, maintain program approval status through the Washington State Board of Nursing Commission and National accreditation.
- Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements.
- Support College student achievement practices to ensure student retention, completion, and progression.
- Participate actively and collaboratively with College Student Services and program advisory committees to support access to employment opportunities for students and maintain student job placement records.
- Accountable for keeping personal development up-to-date; adding to skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses, professional development committees, etc.
- Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for college as needed including but not limited to staff recruitment, college councils, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college oruniversity in accordance with WAC 840-240-524
Five (5) years of nursingexperience
Must possess an unencumbered Washington State RNLicense

Allowable Substitution
If necessary, alternative combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.

Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited college oruniversity
Clinical Simulation Teaching experience
Nursing Education experience
Experience in Curriculum design and Evaluation

Retirement Plans
Faculty and Exempt Positions
Faculty have to choose between either the State Board Retirement Plan (SBRP), also known as TIAA or Plan 3 of the Teachers Retirement System (TRS). to compare the two plans.

Exempt have to choose between either the SBRP or Plan 3 of the Public Employee Retirement System (PERS). to compare the two plans.

SBRP (TIAA) is a defined contribution plan with the following contribution rates:

Employee Contribution: Under 35: 5% of gross salary; 35-49: 7.5% of gross salary; 50 & over: 10% of gross salary

Classified Positions

Employer Contribution: 9.53% of gross salary

Employee and employer contributions to applicable retirement plans are mandatory. The amount of the deduction and contribution are dependent upon the retirement plan chosen and may vary by current contribution rates in effect.

Term Life Insurance
Bates provides $35,000 basic life insurance for death from any cause and $5,000 basic accidental death and dismemberment at no cost to the employee. Employees can enroll in additional low cost life insurance for themselves and dependents.

Long Term Disability Insurance (LTD)
Bates provides a basic LTD insurance plan at no cost to employees. The basic plan pays a maximum of
$240 per month after 90 days of total disability. The optional LTD plan pays 60% of the first $10,000 of monthly salary, reduced by any deductible income such as social security or retirement benefits.
Employee cost is dependent upon benefit waiting period chosen.
