Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and client-focused Payroll & Benefits Consultant with strong HRIS experience to join our expanding team. This role is ideal for someone with proven expertise in payroll processing, benefits administration, and HR systems management who thrives in a consultative environment. The Consultant will work directly with clients and Smart HR’s senior consultants to deliver customized solutions, ensuring compliance and operational excellence. This hybrid role requires flexibility to work on-site several days per week at client offices, combined with remote work for balance and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

· Administer and manage payroll processes for multiple clients, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

· Oversee benefits administration including open enrollment, plan changes, vendor management, and employee communications.

· Implement and support HRIS systems; provide guidance on system selection, setup, and optimization.

· Advise clients on payroll, benefits, and HR compliance matters; research and recommend best practices.

· Develop and maintain HR policies, procedures, and documentation related to payroll and benefits.

· Support onboarding, performance management, and employee engagement initiatives as needed.

· Build trusted relationships with client leadership and staff, acting as a knowledgeable HR resource.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree required (advanced HR or business degree a plus).

· 3+ years of HR experience with a focus on payroll, benefits, and HRIS.

· Demonstrated expertise with payroll systems (ADP, Paychex, Paylocity, etc.) and HRIS platforms.

· Strong knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and HR compliance requirements.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present solutions to clients clearly and professionally.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word); strong analytical and quantitative skills.

· HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or higher) strongly desired.

· Consulting experience or background working with small to midsize organizations is highly valued.
